"We also do not have room to warehouse older, obsolete cards forever."

This one is pretty lame, I know UD use a lot redemption but to blame space of the warehouse is pathetic

I agree with you the_nange. How about the ITG "He shots He saves" program?

Here's an example of that you can read on their website:

The 2011-12 Between The Pipes "He Shoots, He Saves" redemption program is open only to U.S./Canadian (except Quebec) residents.

Does anyone know why "except quebec resident" Is it really a provincial government issue? let me doubt it

The province of Quebec has unique lottery laws within Canada. Virtually every major Canada-wise contest has either special provisions for Quebec residents or excludes the province from participating. From the always reliable about.com:

Quebec sweepstakes law requires that the sponsors must do some or all of the following things:
    • Register the sweepstakes rules and all advertisements used to promote the contest with the Quebec government at least 30 days ahead of the sweepstake's launch.
    • Pay a fee of up to 10% of the sweepstake's value, depending on who is allowed to enter.
    • Agree to allow the government of Quebec to mediate any lawsuits arising from the contest.
    • Follow strict guidelines about the contents of the sweepstakes rules.
    • Allow the Quebec government to determine if the sweepstake may be changed or canceled once it has started.
    • File a written report after the contest has concluded, attesting that the prizes have been delivered or attempted to be delivered.
    • Agree to follow a number of other rules and guidelines. See the Quebec Sweepstakes Laws.

While these laws are intended to protect the citizens of Quebec, they are also a significant burden of money and resources to sweepstakes sponsors, and the consequences for a mistake are severe. Rather than run the risk of facing legal action if these long and complicated rules are not followed to the letter, many sponsors take the easy route of making their contests void in Quebec.

If you pull am expired redemption, and the company says it can't honour that card, do they attempt to make up for it by providing another card/product/pack/something?
Also what do they do with the remption cards not redeemed? Do they destroy them?

UD say they do not have the place to store them so my guess is that this is the only viable option as they would cheeth the one that did not claim them in a way if they were given out.

k..basically the expiry dates are backfiring cuz people wont wanna buy the older products..
also..its the companies fault that there are redemptions ..not the constomer..first of all its brutal having to pull a redemption cuz you will usually have to wait a year or two (Panini) and then when you pull a redemption card outta an older product, youre outta luck..its not your fault theres a redemption..its the companies fault (or technically the players but you the the idea lol:P)..so youre basically paying for the companies "wrong doing" of putting a redemption in there..if that even makes sense

A little bit off topic but in defending the companies with redemptions, in reality we all hate redemptions. The companies hate them as well for it costs them the $$ to print a redemption.

I just think about how the Canadian government (or maybe only Ontario, I can't remember) recently put down a law that says that gift cards can't have expiry dates. Shouldn't it be the same with these redemption cards? The buyer has paid money for a product assuming all cards are in there or at least that they will eventually get the product. Redemptions are already in the company's "corner" by allowing them to claim they have certain products in their collection but take their (sweet) time to get the order done.

Bought a box from 2 years ago 3 remdemptions and all expired. Contacted Upper Deck and it was more of a " do you know how much space we would need if we kept all the various redemptions on site "Not my fault they can't get the job correctly.
