    Brayden Schenn?

I don't know a lot about him, but he is ranked # 2 by Hockey's Future (#1 if you take out RNH who isn't really a prospect anymore). Anyway my question is, is he really that good? A future # 1 Star center in the NHL?

Don't know how to make a link, but you see the top 50 on Hockey's Future.com

Curious about what your guys thoughts are on the rankings...Zibanejad at #5...Scheifele at #14...I hope he really deserves that spot as a Jets fan!

Schenn has elite skill and showed it in the playoffs with 9 points in 11 games. Him and Hodgson are very comparable players, ones who need a little more work on the defensive side in order to thrive. Yes he is that good.

I'm hoping to see him have a monster season, but I don't see it happening on the first line. The Flyers are saying Voracek on G's wing (I think they need to put a goal sniper there personally, not another set up guy) but they want Schenn to play center (he looked good with Briere on his wing in the playoffs).

why would they have schenn play center. they have giroux and couturier. couturier should get more mins and is ready. he could be the 2nd line center while keeping schenn on the wing. if you make schenn and couturier centers, then that's 2nd and 3rd line. i don't think either of them are 3rd line centers even as young as they are, they are easily ready for #2 roles. so keep schenn on the wing in my opinion.

He's always been a center. Couturier is our shut down guy who will play with Talbot and either read/wellwood/rinaldo. Schenn will center Simmonds and Briere on the second line.

couturier shouldn't have to just be "the shutdown guy". that's not what he was drafted as, it's just the way he fit in to make the team as a rookie and he excelled better at it than most would have thought. his offensive upside is huge. maybe one more year as the 3rd line, but at some point, he deserves to be the #2 center. schenn being versatile to play wing only helps. i think you'll see things mixed up throughout the season, but to me, i'd rather see schenn on the wing and give couturier more offensive freedom. couturier is like jordan staal, don't want him stuck as 3rd line forever, that's why staal left the pens. now maybe the flyers don't have the depth this season to make what i'm suggesting happen, so i'm not arguing that he might be the 3rd line guy behind G and Schenn but eventually, i think what i'm suggesting will happen. either way, schenn since that's who we're talking about, will explode this season.

It's probably more a discussion for the hockey chat area, but ultimately one of them will get moved to give them better depth elsewhere. As it's been said, Schenn and Couturier are both better than 3rd liners, but both are better centers than wings. Right now, they give Philly amazing center depth (along with Shenn), but Philly will likely move one to fill in other holes (blue line).

well yeah, this obviously should be in the regular chat area, but no way do i see the flyers trading either one. they would have already because they've made a play for rick nash, bobby ryan, suter, you name it, they went after him this summer and they all asked for one or the other and the flyers said no. no reason to trade them. overall the flyers are fine, they could use a top dman cause timmonen is old as dirt and can't hang anymore but they'll be ok as long as bryz plays decent which is a joke. i hate the flyers so even saying nice things about them hurts me inside. haha.

anyway, yeah a mod should move this thread to the chat area.

as for zibanejad, i really like him and like scheifele even more. i think both of them have a solid impact as rookies this season.

i like hockey future's website as a whole but i don't understand their rankings at all. not for that list, but if you go to each teams page, you'll see some seriously top prospects who have already made a good name for themselves in the nhl as a C- potential player. i never understood how they rate their potentials, so i try to not go by that. but sometimes it's nice to look a player up on there.
