That is not true, I work at a multipurpose hobby shop. In addition to sports cards and memorbilia we carry model trains, remote cars boats and planes as well as card games such as Pokemon, Magic and Yu Gi Oh. We are a UD Certified Diamond Dealer as well as a Panini Authorized Retailer. I will say that sports cards and gaming are the biggest aspects of the shop.

Then they must have changed it recently because when the multipurpose hobby store I bought cards from inquired about this that is what they told him. Plus when I went online to check out Upper Decks FAQ site they also mentioned that for a hobby store to buy direct they had to sell 80% sports cards.

The store sold action figures, comics, board games, card games, etc plus sports cards. The owner wanted to make it more profitable to sell sports cards so he could give competitive prices with online stores but Upper Deck refused. He has since stopped buying sports cards from distributors and therefore stopped selling them. He tried to promote the hobby with trade nights and events which the other shops in my area don't do.

There's a shop nearby me that prices his boxes equal to online sellers plus shipping plus $10. He says it's because you can't get much UD anywhere else in town, so he's actually competetive in pricing.
Don't do that. Price fairly so there's a reason for me to leave the house right now onstead of wait a few weeks to have it delivered.

    Dream hobby store.... lol

As a hobby guy, you want to be able to give as much as possible.

But as a business, I want to make as much as possible.

Lets dust this thread off. This is where I find that the more you network and partner with the companies, the easier this becomes to have giveaways (as most of them do help to boost business).

I wish they would all stop playing the "We only got one case in" game, whilst there are 3 more cases sitting in the back room waiting for a week or two before they play the miracle maker and inform you they "got more in but it went up" routine. I guess this falls into the make as much as possible category as mentioned above.
