opinions please
hey,
I would like to get some opinions.
here is the story:
a year ago I pulled a 10-11 The Cup Dual Honorable Numbers of Ovechkin / Larionov numbered to /8.
The card was a redemption and I redeemed it.
5 months ago I decided to ask for a replacement, my status changed to "replacement requested" and
I waited...
4 months later the status was still the same, I asked several times (per email) what is going on, if they
are going to wait it out, maybe because of a upcoming signing session. No answers...
then I called them and the woman on the line told me that my replacement would be picked soon and that I
can expect it within the next 3 weeks (that was 2 weeks ago).
well today FEDEX came by and I was curious what the replacement would be.
there was no replacement.
it was the card I redeemed and it was numbered 8 / 8 (yeah jackpot)

BUT...
there was another card in the package,
a Paajarvi Ultimate AU RC /299
and a slip of paper saying "we apologize that the card you are receiving did not meet
the quality standards" and "please accept the additional card as compensation for the
damaged card"
ummm... wait a minute... UD is sending out damaged high end cards and puts in a lousy
Paajarvi RC as compensation, right from the start ?
Why did they knowingly send me a damaged card after I asked for a replacement almost half a year
ago ?
the upper left corner of the Dual Honorable Numbers is slightly damaged, it is not very
bad but still damaged.
I think the card will still be a strong seller because of the 8/8 numbering, and will most likely go higher
then a perfect 1,2,3,4,5,6 or 7/8
but I still think WHY ? WHY ME ? WHY THIS CARD ? WHY COULDN'T
THIS JUST BE A NOT DAMAGED 8/8...
What are you thinking about this ?
Would you contact UD again, because of the fact that a Paajarvi Ultimate RC is not compensating the
damage of that card ? Would you sell it as high as possible and not think of it again ?
Do you find it strange too, that UD is shipping damaged cards knowingly even to customers who asked
for a replacement on the card months ago ?

Upper Deck never ceases to amaze me, wow man I feel for you. I would call Upper Deck and politely ask ™™™?

Wow. Can't believe they did that. They could have sent you something better then a Paajarvi Ultimate AU RC, Especially since the value of the 8/8 card is pretty high. At least you got the redemption card you sent in for thou. As I don't believe they make extras of the Cup cards to restamp and send out. I am still waiting for Panini to send me my 6 Star Stamkos form Titanium back...not holding my breath probably will get a couple of cards matching BV which would suck.

Just my opinion. You have a dual auto of Alex Ovechkin. Numbered to his Jersey #. Limited to 8 copies. They are not single color swatches. You got a free AU RC of a decent player. The damage, damn, I'd be pissed too. Be happy and move on.

I'd be furious myself. Especially when you knew, and they knew that is was damaged.
Time to "Lawyer-Up"

I just got off the phone with Upper Deck, for once I didn't have to sit on hold but that was the only positive part of the whole conversation. Last February I opened a pack of 10/11 The Cup and pulled a damaged Rainbow rookie of Ekman Larson, I wasn't happy and sent it back via tracking, sig confirmation. During that period while trying to decide if I should send it in I had email correspondence and was ensured it would be replaced with a Scheifele rainbow rookie of this years cup. Well I figured I would follow up today, spoke with the manager Kelly and she didn't even have record of it being received, so I pulled the tracking # out, then she went on to inform me it would be replaced with the same card, I then read her the email from Upper Deck stating it would not be replaced with the same card because the Ekman-Larson was SP'd to his jersey #. This person is the manager? Upper Deck why? Why? Why? Can't anything ever go smoothly? Why does it take constant phone calls and emails?!?!?!
Here is the video break of the card, sweet card and I am now regretting sending it in:

They didn't have to send anything out at all. They have a super limited card from The Cup, a card which was quite possibly damaged by one of the players, and it's not as though they can dip into the other cards from the stock (which may have already been sent out) without possibly running into further problems -- what happens if another collector redeems his card code and gets told, "We don't have a copy to send you"? The damage is a downer, sure, but many cards from The Cup are condition sensitive to begin with, and I'm more than willing to believe that the die-hard Ovechkin collectors out there will overlook it to get a jersey #'d card with a super short print run. Look at the Paajarvi as gravy.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

that sort of damage on cup cards is now so standard i barely even see it being damaged on my computer monitor looking close now, its not even worth to get upset about, it could get worse and since its a super short printed card to just 8 i think you should be happy that you got the card you should from the start but thats just me.

I am with you.
Only problem for me is, UD knowingly sent me a damaged card which I asked to be replaced months ago. I am happy with the outcome being the 8/8, I just don't understand why they sent me a damaged card. I mean I was pulling myself out of this one with my replacement request, they just could have sent me some nice replacements and the ovi/larionov to someone else still waiting for it.
Like I said, I am happy with the card, because it will get me either a nice chunk of cash or some real nice PC cards just because it is numbered 8/8 (crazy), but I do not understand UD at all in this one.

I wrote an email a week ago, telling them that I am not happy with what they did.
I asked them politely if they could do something about it.
Told them that I am collecting SPA FW Patches and that I would like to get one of these
if possible.
well... today a huge letter arrived via FEDEX and in it were:

UD definitely took care of business.
Thanks for the effort UD!
