Fake Patch Question
Hey guys got a question for you all. I have a thing for patches, But how do you tell if the card you got has a fake patch in it? I am going to pursue patches harder now but I am confused as to how to tell when your card has been altered and the integrity is gone from it?

If I may borrow an adult joke, it's kinda like pornography - I don't know exactly how to define it but I know it when I see it.
Usually you can just kinda tell by looking at it - it seems "too good to be true" or if you've seen a lot of copies of the card and one stands out for whatever reason--seems to have different material, is MUCH nicer than all the others, etc.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Depends on how good the forger is. If you do a search through the archives and this forum for "kenny forgery" you may get a few more insights.
Generally speaking, forgers will focus on high-end cards of high-end players. There's quite a few ruined Cup RC's of the /99 and the /249 stars that have been altered because the forgers know that these cards, which already fetch a huge premium, will command an even greater premium with an insane patch. Fortunately, to protect against that sort of thing, there are a couple Cup archives that have scans of many of the original cards as well as their altered versions. mwdonald I believe still has his up and running.
It never hurts to ask if you're not sure. Sometimes you can tell just by looking but it's always good to solicit the opinions of others - occasionally some honest folks have had the torches & pitchforks brigade after them for unwittingly posting a faked patch card that they had obtained not knowing it was altered.

Some people have faked UD black cards without dammaging them, pretty tough considering getting the materials in an out of the tiny letters.Pretty sure the pros split up the cards in half.
