Cards You Wish You Still Had

I was browsing through the baseball forum and noticed a fellow collector talking about a Jackie Bradley Jr. card he bought at his LCS and that reminded me of the JBJ BC Refractor auto I sold of his last year for 30 bucks. I also gave him a blue refractor/250 and sold my Oscar Taveras Gold Refractor/50 for $50 last year as well.

All three cards have taken major spikes in value, but I was able to buy some PC cards with them, but boy oh boy I had no idea that these cards would triple and even quadruple in value. At the end of the day hobby is a gamble and I am pretty sure everyone has cards they wish they still had and I sold my cards to PC collectors as well so I don't mind that as much as if I had sold them to a guy that would just flip the cards for a profit.

Other examples of cards I wish I still had are my two, yes two Gretzky autos notably my dual Lemieux/Gretzky signs of the time autos from 06/07. I have never seen this card listed anywhere or at any show and I just traded it for a bunch of cards that are long gone. I also managed to pull a BAP Gretzky auto back in the day that I also traded for a bunch of autos from that set. SMART.

Other cards I miss are a load of 05-06 SP Authentic Patches from both football and hockey. I picked up quite a few of the bigger names and I remember having a sweet Maurice Jones Drew and Vernon Davis and a bunch of the hockey one's such as Corey Perry, Mike Richards and Jeff Carter. I was also a set collector in the mid 2000s and had nearly the entire 05-06 spx auto jersey set, all of them expect Sid. I also had a few cup rpas and what not which I all traded away b/c my collection had no focus at all and I just got cards to trade them away.

Thankfully my collection focus has matured now and I am more patient with my cards. So, what stories have you guys got to share?

Not value wise but I do miss my Nolan Ryan collection. I sold it when I got out of the hobby, I must have had 15-20 autos, 50 GU and probably 3500-5000 other cards and a few cool misc. items. I'm sure it would probably actually be worth less now than it was then but I'd still love to have it.

Wish I had the Mike Schmidt cards from when I was younger, nothing special just some 70's and 80's cards. Unfortunately my lil brother took the scissors to them one day when he was mad at me, he claimed "They just fell apart" :(

Pulled a Mickey Mantle 1994 Upper Deck Heroes autograph of of the first pack of the box. Was 14 years old so got over $500 in trades and cash. Still pissed to this day, but I was 14 and I saw all that money and cards for one card. UGH!

Still wish I had the 94-95 Finest Michael Jordan Refractor with number #45 on his jersey. Again, young and had an expensive card.

I swear I'm doomed now because I never pull high dollar cards anymore.

I learned a long time ago to NEVER trade a big money card for a bunch of lesser cards. There is reason afterall that collectors are willing to trade their scraps for your gold!!!

I wish I could go back in time lol, but when you are 14 years old and have a few hundred dollars in cash and cards for one card, it feels like you hit the jackpot lol.

Way back in the day I broke a box of 1996-97 Chrome basketball at my local LCS and pulled the Kobe rookie refractor. I traded it right there in the shop for something that I cant even remember. DoH!

I wish I had all the cards I traded DOH and my memory is pretty good so when I can't remember something it probably isn't worth remembering lol.
