I agree with the 70's pornography comment. As for wine coolers, I usually stay away & enjoy a nice Guinness Black Lager. 4.5% by volume. Yummy!

We wear clothes because they keep us warm.
We know what good and bad are because we see the affects of each on others.
We get married for 1,000 different reasons. Which one do you want to hear?
Do "most" people celebrate Christmas? Oh, maybe you are asking, "Of the people that celebrate Christmas, what is the reason most of them do so?" If that is the question I would say that most people celebrate Christmas because they have been misinformed as to it's significance in their religion.
What do any of these questions have to do with the oxymoron of a "factual bible"? Your turn now, please factually explain to me these three question.
How old is the Earth?
Why do the Inuit live where they live?
How did Mary manage to conceive a child without having sex?
Remember, only use FACTS in answering.

other than 4, I love the way you stated all of these!
To me though, laws are boundaries that we set to ensure that we don't do ignorant harm to each other. I would say that many times GOVERNING BODIES (like the church, parents, web-sites etc) will misinterpret or "re-define" a law to make it profitable for them, but I think that 90% of the laws we have are beneficial, especially if you apply number 1 and number 6 to every situation

We wear clothes because thousands of years ago, someone was cold, and thought "hey, if I cover my self in the furry hide of this animal I just killed I will be warm and survive. then, someone thought, "Hey, if I weave this fiber together like I do the thatches on the roof of my hut, I can cover myself and stay warm" etc...these are not "miracles" but just strains of simple thoughts and deductions...just natural processes
as someone else mentioned, we see others get influenced by our actions, and make the deduction that what happened was either hurtful or helpful. We naturally shy away from things that will harm us, and remember the path to repeat the helpful action. Once again, just natural reactions to things. Over the thousands of years, the diffeent religions have learned to use these warm fuzzy feelings to manipulate their people...for good OR bad, but these decisions WERE NOT a result of religion in the very beginning.
Marriagehas ALWAYS been a business deal and purely social contract, that, once again, was manipulated, especially by the Patriarchal Western religions, for their own profit and control of people. Marriages IN CHURCHES are a post Dark Ages act only! During these times of chaos in Europe, the church was the only governing body that could protect people from barbarians and raiders, and people were told that if the didn't follow the church, they would be tossed out, and then be alone. Telling people that they had to be married and bring children up in the churches beliefs was one way to ensure that the church kept making money (from tithing), once again...marriage for profit. Now, it is just a tradition that we are used to going through. in fact, I would venture to say that about half the people in America DO NOT have religious based marriages any more.. BUT they definitely get tax breaks and some other economically based incentives, AND the only official contract that is ever signed is from the government, NOT the church
Wait...what? You just asked a question, then contradicted it in two ways with the answer....this is hilarious "logic". I can't even begin to touch this
Well, they actually don't. MOST people are some form of Eastern religion (Buddhist, Shinto, Daoist,Hindu), so they DON'T celebrate Christmas. Most of the people in YOUR CHURCH in YOUR SUBURB of where ever you live celebrate Christmas...that is a VERY SMALL microcosm of the world. MANY people in America celebrate Christmas because they are Christian, or (like me) because they are pagan and it is one of the oldest pagan celebrations where you gather around friends and family in the darkest part of the year to be thankful for surviving one cycle, and (hopefully) moving to the next. (Don't get me started about how modern religions have subverted the pagan rituals in their beliefs...that is a whole other thread) Many people who are not spiritual celebrate that time of year for the familial reasons only that I talked about above, and some people purely celebrate he commercialism of it...Last edited by xpucksx; 04-21-2013 at 11:48 AM.

Harry Potter proved that magic is indeed real, how? He's a wizard and goes to wizard school. How do I know this? I read the books, it's all there.
So, Harry Potter along with the other wizards can disappear and reappear anywhere in the world, they can turn themselves into animals, they can even do things like turn water into other liquids.
There is no need to check whether or not this is testable or even possible, because it's in the books.....why would the author lie to us?
The logic being employed here is the exact same one you are using.
First of all, I have never met any credible person that calls himself an "Evolutionists".....they usually call themselves scientists.
Secondly, I agree they do interpret the evidence differently.
One has an objective standard, the other doesn't.
Really?
God has to exist so for you to understand that we wear clothes to protect our bodies?
You don't know what good and bad is without god? BTW, the bible says slavery is OK, are YOU ok with slavery?
Why do we get married? Tons of reasons, I don't see what god has anything to do with that.
I think you need to read up on what speciation is....because that's basically what you're talking about here.
BTW Hammybone, can you tell me the difference between a Dog, Fox, and Wolf?
Are they different species yes or no?
What does that have anything to do with everything else you said?
Also, you do know Christmas is originally a Pagan holiday right?

So cute.

Bold 1: Yes, but the author of Harry Potter admits it's fiction. That is the difference.
I mean, why would she lie to us?
Bold 2: So believing in evolution makes you a "scientist"? Shouldn't that pay better?
Other than that, I got married to make my mom and grandma happy and I believe they're all canines, but I'm no scientist (or maybe I am...?)

I used Harry Potter because that was the first thing that came to mind, in reality I should've used a book whose author is no longer living.
***EDIT**** (BTW, We still don't know who wrote MOST of the bible, so finding out whether or not their writings were meant to be fiction would be very hard to do so).
For example "The Odyssey" and "The Iliad" by Homer.
Homer did not say his writings were fiction, and yet there are some incredible claims within them.
How do we know if they are true if we simply say "it's in the book and therefore it had to happen."
We need a way to properly test these things.
Usually when a creationists (And I believe he is a creationist) say words like "evolutionists" he is referring to Evolutionary Biologists....except not one of those scientists refer to themselves that way.
But if he was just referring to people who believe in evolution as evolutionists, it is still a weird terminology.....no one calls people who believe in the theory of gravitation "gravitionists".Last edited by JustAlex; 04-22-2013 at 03:00 PM.
