6 year old given detention for bringing 2 inch action figure gun onto school bus
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...chool-bus.html
A 6-year-old kindergartner sparked an uproar at his Massachusetts school when he was spotted brandishing a tiny plastic Lego gun on the school bus last week.
Mieke Crane, the child's mother, insists that officials at Old Mill Pond Elementary School in Palmer overreacted when another student saw the toy, which is slightly bigger than a quarter, and alerted the driver Friday.
'She [driver] said he caused quite a disturbance on the bus and that the children were traumatized,' Crane told the local station WGGB.
n the aftermath of the incident, the school sent a letter home to parents explaining what happened and stressing that there was no actual firearm aboard the bus, and that the students were never in any danger.
The missive was accompanied by a photo of the black toy gun showing its actual diminutive size.
Crane's son has been forced to write a letter of apology to the bus driver. He was also given detention Tuesday and could be temporary stripped off his busing privileges.
The student who yelled about the toy gun on the bus also had to issue an apology, which both the child's mother and Crane believe was a mistake because kids should be able to speak up when they see something suspicious.

im sure that one group of people are sitting back thinking to them selves right now "we took another criminal off the streets"...
they will kick this kid out of school but the little thug that sits in the back acting like a fool is ok i bet

From reading the story I do not think the "actual" gun is the issue. There was probably a little panic when the kid who saw the toy gun shouted out that "Tommy" (pun intended) had a gun. In today's environment this would have caused some stress to all involved for a very brief time until they figured out what "gun" really meant. I think apologies were warranted. Any kind of suspensions is overreacting though.

I understand what you are saying, but how is this a good idea? I think a better point could be made besides we use to make flamethrowers at school, so whats the big deal?

The kid who proclaimed that another kid had a gun and created the turmoil needs to be dealt with as well. Creating a bad situation to get attention is wrong. It is illegal to yell "Fire!" in a crowded building when there is no fire for a reason. That kid knew when he/she said that another kid had a gun that he/she would create a ruckus. That kid needs to be sitting in detention and facing loss of bus privileges too.

I agree. the kid that yelled that he had a gun is more at fault for causing the issue than the kid who had a lego gun. Although he probably was just joking around.

Children need to be educated why yelling fire in a crowded house or anything like this is bad. They are kids yes so education is they key.But to over react from a toy lego gun is nonsense
