    personal collection decision need help!

Hey guys! So the wife and I are running into a dilemma with our personal collection.I enjoy a wide variety of cards of players I like and ducks while she enjoys trying to collect every card of Galiardi.

While I'm happy with how I've been doing with my cards its come to the point where Galiardi cards we need are very rare and barely pop up and he isn't getting many new cards produced lately so she's getting bored. We by no means plan to give up on it but were looking for advice from people who may have ran into situations like this before.

We Here are our ideas, looking for others if possible

    1. Doing a set of some sort: We'd be looking for something with a cheap price tag but at the same time nice, preferably jersey or auto cards but really open to anything. The problem with this is we tried building the 11-12 ygs set but just had no personal attachment to it so we sold it when we were at 93/100 cards

    2. Start a collection of the Leafs: this is an option that would be awesome if we can find a neat way to so it (ie: yg of every player that's played on the team type of thing). Now with this we don't want to get attached to one player because I've seen this happen to often where you start one and the player is traded and it becomes irrelevant so we want to stay away from that situation

    3. Start up another player collection like we have going with Galiardi: it'd be nice to start another like this but with Galiardi the main preference. Wed be looking for a player that we could get personally attached to collecting that also comes with a cheap price tag

Would love to hear comments about situations like this or peoples preferences on different sets and such out there!

How about picking a retired player you admire - maybe a lifelong Leafs player (or mostly associated with Leafs) with a limited checklist? I've been doing that with Rick Vaive and Borje Salming (players I remember watching as a kid) the past couple of years and it's nice to do on the side while I pursue the latest and greatest whatever or fill in sets like 11/12 Contenders and my massive obsession with Decades 1980s.

Problem is being 22 we don't really have any favorite retired players that we are attached enough to to collect since we didn't watch while they played. We both started collecting post 05 lockout and have only gotten right into the last few years

haha yes we are :P And we'd love to eventually make a trip up and go to the HHOF only problem is $$ haha wanna lend me some so i can go visit it ;) lmao. The wifes family all live up in Ottawa so one of the times we go up for a visit we'll have to head there but driving from FL to Toronto just for that is too costly

    Enjoy the lull.

With all the crazy 2013-14 stuff coming out starting in 2 weeks, this is going to be the last bit of downtime that many people will enjoy.

Start up a new PC with one of the hot rookies and enjoy the frenzy!

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

If you pick too hot of a rookie I think frenzy might be an understatement lol.

I think this is very sound advice. As a player collector, you should enjoy any downtime because eventually it will be replaced by yet another mad chase for new cards from the player you collect. I'm going through a similar situation with my Robin Lehner collection, where the cards I need are mostly low-numbered and rarely become available. To fill the void, I just try picking up multiples of some of the higher-end stuff and check out new releases to see what might be coming around the bend.

The idea of chasing a set is always good, and it's smart that you know what you want regarding a jersey and/or auto. With my player PCs having slowed, I've been slowly starting the 2004 Legendary Signatures auto set. I figure it will take me years to complete, but it will help fill that summertime, no-release void from which many of us seem to suffer. I also find taking my time on a set to be a better choice than diving in headfirst every year or two to chase another player.

I would just re-read the options you presented to us and pick the one you feel best about. That's what's great about the hobby...there are no rules. I am a team collector, so that would be my opinion. Since I collect the Canadiens, I can't possibly get everything, so no pressure there. And no stress chasing 1/1s becasue, well, doesn't matter. Choose something that you invest time in because you want to, not because you "have" to.
