Looks like the RCMP foiled another terrorist plot, this time in Victoria. Apparently two people, inspired by, but with no ties to, al-Qaeda had built some pressure cooker bombs, intending to set them off at the BC Legislature during Canada Day celebrations.
Now, I'm not the RCMP's biggest fan as an organization, but I will say one thing in their favour, they seem pretty good at this.

I'm glad no one got hurt but I always take these stories of the gov't foiling terrorist plots with a grain of salt.

The RCMP acts independently from the Canadian Government. They have for years been the least corrupt police force on the planet. The Canadian Government on the other hand, have been known to stand in the shade on occasion.
