I am assuming that you were probably born in the 80's or late 70's.
I was born in the 50's and for the first 23 years of my life, the Canadian Dollar was always 5% higher than the US Dollar. We had a terrible depression in 1981-82 that affected Canada, and the rest of the World, but not the USA. That depression softened the Canadian Dollar to go as far as being only worth 46 cent US in 1998-99.
It has rebounded nicely, slowly gathering momentum, and for most of 2011-2012 was slightly higher than the US Dollar, by about 2%. It has settled in at about 3-4% lower at the moment, right where it should be so that Canada does not suffer a Trade Imbalance.
The reason the Canadian Dollar is strong again, is that we do not allow SHYSTERS to run our banks. You cannot get a bogus mortgage in Canada. If you don't have 20% Downpayment ........... No House, No Loan. Canada was not affected too adversely by the US Banking Failures because things are done differently, and nobody was foreclosed upon, because they didn't have enough capital to borrow in the first place.
As long as your federal government is allowing banking tricks and side-shows, your country cannot achieve fiscal stability.

Lasted this long?
The U.S has been a "superpower" for about 60-65 years, and it's starting to quickly crumble.
In comparison the old empires of the past lasted hundreds of years.
The U.S "empire" was so pathetic it couldn't even win their own fabricated wars.
The lasting memory of the U.S "empire" will be it's insufferable greed and incompetence.
I know exactly what you mean.
I too would make fun of Canada relentlessly in the past.
Their monopoly money was always good for laughs.
If the inevitable happens during my lifetime, I'm jumping ship ASAP!
No need to stick around a burning and sinking ship.

They don't know how to leave their own county, let alone travel outside of the USA. That's why. The kids of today's resourcefulness comes via the element of time it takes to defeat whatever new COD or Assassins Creed that has been released. Other than that little nugget, they are void of thought in global terms.
We have spawned the first generation in history that will continue to live in the dark in it's parent's basement until death.

Not quite, but we have created an incredibly vapid generation, generally speaking.

I always use the extreme, but I'm really not that far off, at least in terms of male children in the USA. I have not been exposed to the Youth of Canada for well over 13 years now, as I have been here that long.

They still like to go outside, but they accomplish about the same.
