Thanks for the response (at work and can't press enter so this will be one long paragraph for now unfortunately). Yea would be something that any member can add to, there's no way one person would keep track of everything. Obviously it wouldn't be a complete list because of all of the cards that have been damaged in the last several years, but more something to start keeping track of. Definitely would be just a small portion, but I figure anything would be better than nothing. Valid point about faking it, but I'm referring to some decent damage to the card, not just a bad corner or something....which would be harder to fake in my opinion, but still a good point. Thanks again for the response!

Another thread a certain member decided to troll!
But onto the actual thread .....
Like others have said, I think this process would be very hard, not like getting Cup RC archives. Its easy to use ebay to find a lot of cards, along with group breaks / these forums / etc etc ......a damaged card database would be SUPER time consuming .... especially seeing as you dont have the same tools like the Cup archives.
I can add 1 to the list though .....
I had an 05/06 Ultimate Collection Auto Rookie Lundqvist /299. It had a little mark on it, so I tried to pick it off ...... well anyways, I picked the thing that was stuck to the surface off, but along came the surface! I decided to rip the card in half and just grab another one.
So that brings the Lundy Ult Au RC to /298!

Fun idea but it would not work. Mainly we could not get enough data so that it end up to be useful eventually and get people to use it. Being the programmer that is coding the inventory, I have experience on the subject. It's just not worth the time spend versus the use it would get. I also get a lot of feedback from member and more so about player collectors. They all want to be able to say that maybe a card is now 24, not 25. But the issue is how reliable such database would be. How do you prove that the card as been destroyed. How many entries would such project get and how do you get it out to collectors. Just not really something that would help, work or even worth the trouble to maintain it. Any idea how many cards are done with 25 or less print run???
305,627 cards
Mainly even if we would use the current database we have already here on SCF, I still would not want to code it because I do not see this as useful enough for what it would bring to collector. One of the idea that got more love, the high end Rookies never even got to a point where member would adopt it and each guy that started one, stop it at some point.
We are lucky enough that my Inventory application still see enough member that stand up to make it still work today but it's a lot of work to maintain it and not easy to get volunteer to replace the one who leave. So I would not want to even had more work to what is already a lot of work just to keep adding the new sets in.

I believe I understand what you're saying. Maybe the word database is a confusing term. If I may, I believe he means the documentation of a certain card on an individual level.
For example, "Hey Tim, would you happen to have xxx card #'ed to 5 available?"
"Yeah, I once did but it was so damaged I teared it up" or "Yea, I do however its in very poor condition that it is no longer collectible, so there might as well be only 4 available now".
"That sucks. I'll keep note of it in my personal card speadsheet".
6 months later... Someone creates a thread looking for xxx card. The person who kept note of the status of the card will let the current thread poster know that the card they thought there were only 5 of is now down to 4 or that the 5th one is so beat up its not even worth chasing that one in particular.
I sort of do this, not with condition but with prices sold and prices I paid for cards. I only keep track of the cards I'm interested it, so its a narrow individual "database", but nonetheless the information I have is very useful.
If i'm not understanding the original post, let me know. I will agree that such a task on a large scale is not practical due to the effort and personal resources needed to do so.

I actually like that better than what I was thinking of lol. You're right though, I may have used database out of context, as many have thought that I meant one individual keeping track of thousands of cards.
I meant more just a thread where members can state that they have a rare card that was damaged while showing proof or some kind of validity that the card isn't "collectable" anymore, pretty much the card can't be traded or sold. It obviously wouldn't be something where every card that was damaged will be taken into account, that would be impossible. More just if a card pops up, keep note of it
Valid points have been made about proving the card has been damaged though, didn't think too much about that

The database would be the right way to go with such project. The issue is not there as database remain the best way to store information. The issue is that there is so many cards like I stated 25 and less, now it would be easy for me to code and attach this in the current card database as all it would do is to add information for a given card where the member could state that card 03/25 was damaged. The problem is not there, it how do you get people to bring the info to us and how do you show it out. Most person would not even know the service exist and if we would do all this and no one know or find the info, it's useless. I mean even if a few find let's say a action in the inventory that I would code to report them per cards, there are so many that for most person they would probably not find the info for the cards they would like to know.
So the issue is more to have enough info and I know only a few person would use it and then the project would die. Just because there is not enough interest. I know it would be cool and the best way would be to tie such project to the SCF database since we already list all cards and enter the new ones. But I don't see it being used enough so it be worth the effort.
For instance the Cup archives, I wanted to get this going, I coded a application for us to use it and no one did. All a question of yes it's cool but would collector adopt the idea and project.
Look how cool the Inventory I coded is. But I can tell you that almost all staff did not believe in this project at first and look how it has grown and is used today, but it took many years for it to work and a lot of time and effort on my end and a small team that believed in me. Lucky for me that the owner did believe in it because I can tell you staff support would have killed this project if the owner would not have been on my side. So it's more a question of would it get used enough so that it would be worth it and I do not think it would.

It would be a good idea for low #D to 5 and under famous stuff but outside of that it really wouldn't be feasible. There are too many #D cards now and many of them aren't wanted so there wouldn't be a demand for that information. But for 1/1 rookies and such I could see the need or want by people for knowing what happened to a card.
