How do people feel about these hot cases w/ poor collation? Do you like having hot cases or would you rather have an even keel, evenly collated release?

If you do not do sets, then hot boxes is a plus when you hit them because it help your trader section and PC for the hit on them. Opening boxes will always be hit or miss.

While busting wax is hit or miss, one look at collation figures over larger quantities show that there were systematic problems with this release. For instance, here are some numbers I have from my retros in terms of quantities (after 1 1-600 set was put together). I am pulling this from no particular place in the regular checklist. Let's see if there's a pattern...

    12,6,5,4,2,12,6,5,,3,2,12,6,5,3,1,12,6,3,3,2,12,5, 5,3,3,12,6,3,3,3,12,6,4,3,3,12,6,5,3,4,11,6,5,3,4, 12,5,3,3,4,12,5,3,3,3,12...

You get the picture. Buying 5 cases from two seperate locations yielded me this. The rookies were much more evenly spread out, as a set building product like this should be.

I was sorting some of the 501-600 base rookies and had inclinations that this happened again with that subset. I can't only imagine how the base worked out.

This goes beyond wax being hit or miss to a big mistake by Upper Deck and their production facility. I haven't checked lately, but last I saw via their social media, no acknowledgement of a possible mistake has been made. While I don't expect them to shout it from the mountain tops, a simple exaplanation and mea culpa goes a long way.

You are taking my quote in part and out of context. I did agree that the coalition is off in a previous post here, The last comment was only about the hot box factor. To me, not being a set collector the hot box factor is not a issue, on the contrary. But the coalition is definitely off and I agree on this. This was not a issue in the previous years, so they definitely miss their release on that end.

Fair enough. When I read your message, I understood it as saying opening boxes is always risky like we often tell people when they open a high-end box and don't hit something massive. We'll typically say opening boxes can be hit or miss. You hear it enough times said one way you become predisposed to thinking that's how it's always said. Thanks for the clarification Luc!
