1/1 Question - Sergei Samsonov
I was digging through the "old card" box from the 90's and came across this one.

Can't recall how I acquired it but it is a sharp looking card. Reading the certificate of authenticity made me laugh though.
Found an ebay sale for the /100 version (below).

I guess it always comes down to this, does anybody know anything about this card and what is it worth?
Would like to get your opinions.
Thanks all,
Don

Always interesting to see stuff like this, but as an after-market, unauthorized alteration of an original card, it is worth very little to anyone other than the most die-hard of Samsonov collectors.

Best to put up a no reserve auction at 0.01 and find out.

Oh man. I'm trying to piece together the Century Collection /100 and then I opened your thread and saw a 1/1 without reading anything and my bowels almost let go before I realized it wasn't an actual Upper Deck thing..........soooooo thanks for that :D
There ARE Samsonov collectors out there, I lost out on a /100 for over $30, you might get some decent coin out of it...........

Sluggo, really appreciated the coffee coming out my nose...lol. Made me laugh.
Appreciate the feedback guys, strange to find out about the aftermarket aspect of the card.
Back in the box it goes...lol.

There were a few shyster companies that tried to take advantage by altering copy-written materials such as these. They were taken to court I believe, lost and forced out of business.
This card is a one of one to an idiot and a piece of worthless paper to a card collector.

Now now, everything has a "worth" to someone, if that was a Kesler card I'd be all over it and I'm fully aware that it's junk :D
One man's trash n all.............

I suppose……. Now if you are a hoarder, then quite possibly this card is the most beautiful thing that you have ever seen.

Yeah, it's a tough one.
If you're trying to put together that set, the modification (IMO) makes the card worthless. That isn't the case for JUST this card. As an example - If I were putting together a set of 2010-11 BTP jersey cards..... I would not want an Expo 1/1 Stamped card as part of that set. Doesn't mean I wouldn't want the Expo stamped card as part of my collection.... I just wouldn't use it as a piece in a set (becuase, IMO, it's no longer the same thing).
This is not the same thing though. In the case of a BTP card that was stamped for a show by ITG, that's the manufacturer alterning their own cards. This is someone else making changes to the card after the fact.
Is it worth anything? I guess if you've got two very dedicated player collectors going after it.... the final price in an auction could climb pretty quicky. I will admit, if it were a Ranford card you're showing off - I know I'd bid on it. I'm not sure I'd go all that high ($20, maybe) but its unique, so I would probably try.
No way a player collector is even going to have that card on their checklist though. Not something they're looking for, so it'd be easy to skip over in an eBay search (unless you're searching for "1/1").
The prices some cards will go for though, nothing really surprises me anymore. Could be sitting on something that gets you a really good price, or it might be junk? I really have no idea.

A few years ago this guy and somebody else were making a lot of these stamped 1/1 cards on eBay. Maybe it was the same guy or not but the other "theme" of the stamp was the Special Olympics. Some of these brought a lot of money on eBay $100+ given that at the time 1/1 cards were still rare versus today.
I can see some hardcore player collector wanting it for his collection but I honestly don't see how they could bring that much since all you need is a machine to stamp the design and you could make hundreds of them. Plus you don't know how many the creator actually made. I doubt he is going to stick to just one out of morals or something when attempting to make a quick buck.Selling all my cards here updated as of May------------> Hidden Content
