Proof/Test Cards
I was searching eBay today and came across a seller (leximo) who was listing a whole bunch of proof cards and test cards. A lot of these cards appeared to be prototypes for an auto or jersey card but without the actual signature or jersey added to the card. Are these cards worth anything? I noticed card proofs aren't even listed in any inventories, so I don't know what to make of them. I was thinking of adding some for my PC but they have an "unofficial" feel to them that makes me want to just ignore them altogether. However, they do represent another variation of cards for players that I collect. I am interested in knowing how other collectors perceive these proof cards.

What those are is uncut sheet redemptions from Cup that people redeem and then cut up. In all honesty, I can't stand them, and consider them to have no value.

For the most part, that seller's stuff is sheet-cuts (The Cup & the OPC Premier) and Pacific stuff from when Pacific shut down and the vultures swooped down to buy up everything that wasn't nailed down for cheap, again mostly cut from sheets.
SOME of it is actual one-of-a-kind company "inside" stuff, for instance this mock-up of a card that was never actually produced...........

What are they worth? Whatever you're willing to pay for them........? I can't afford The Cup 1/1's of Carey Price, Gordie Howe & Steve Yzerman but I could afford these :)

And if you're in the right place at the right time you can take a sheet-cut card and have it turned into your own 1/1 masterpiece :)

Personally, I love these things, I love having stuff that no one else has even if it doesn't "exist" or it's "worthless"

To me the proof cards are mostly a novelty, but I think they are really neat to pickup when the actual pack-inserted card never got made, which is the case for a number of autographed cards where the athletes either didn't sign at all or UD chose not to include them as redemptions.

I personally don't really like proof cards. When I did some minor player collecting a few years back I never wanted to pick up any of them, but if they release proof Mask cards, then hey, I might pick some up. To me, they'll never be more even close the value of the original, even if they're scarce compared to the original print run.

Whether you choose to collect them is up to you. If it fills a hole in your PC then go for it.
Having said that, I think most collectors see them as "cards" with little value, since they're not pack-pulled cards and most were created by getting cut out of sheets.
But that shouldn't stop you from acquiring them, if you like the idea of owning one. Just don't pay much...

Other members here have nailed down exactly what these are. Uncut sheets have been purchased, and then cut up.
Are they worth anything? Well, I guess that depends. Some people like them, otheres don't. Its your call. If you think it's something worthwile to add to your collection - I say go for it, if it's a price you think fair. I know I have picked up a few of these over the last couple of years from the same seller. Nice guy, easy to deal with.
