I see that all the time.

I know that in the states, shipping a single card (or up to about 6 cards) in a bubble mailer costs $2.07. A lot of sellers are now charging $2.07 for shipping since the postal rates went up. I like dealing with these sellers, as I know they're being up front with me.

However .... I also see a lot of people charging $3 or $3.50 for shipping. I usually just don't deal with them, as I don't like the high shipping cost, plus, I KNOW they are pocketing an additional $.93 or $1.43 in excess of the shipping.

You realize it's shipping and handling, right? I charge $3 to ship inside the US. I don't pocket the other 93 cents, that goes towards the envelope and the penny sleeve and toploader. If you won't buy from someone who "pockets 93 cents" then quite frankly I don't think I would want to deal with you.

Agreed. The extra charge for shipping and handling is a cost of doing business. How is it you can justify a card shop charging a bit more because they have to maintain a location, which costs $$$, but we can't give the same credit to the guy who has to spend $$$ on gas to drive to the post office, time to pull and package the card, etc....

Factor in to this the fact that you are usually buying cards for a fraction of their actual value and I would say a little bit extra doesn't hurt you.

Also, where do any of you get off slamming people or giving negative feedback when they announced the cost ahead of time in their listing? They don'\t owe you an explanation for their shipping costs, NOBODY OWES YOU ANYTHING. If you didn't like it, you didn't have to bid. The card belongs to them, and thus they can charge whatever they like.

If you don't like it, don't bid on it. SIMPLE.

It's for sure a little more than the actual price for shipping at the post office.

I would MAYBE give him a low star rating on the shipping fee's but again, you saw that the price was 25$ before bidding on it !

Also factor in the fees you pay on shipping and in Canada we pay tax on the stamps. So a 1.34 stamp costs us 1.50. At least in Ontario other provinces may be more or less.

Shipping overnight or express costs $15, and if you want to add extra insurance it is $1 for every $100. Factor in envelope, time, gas, etc.... Maybe the guy is charginf a few extra bucks, like 2 or 3 (and we don't know how far the closest Post office to his house is, it might cost him 3$ in gas to get there).

I wouldn't call that "a fraction" of $25.

If he ships regular mail with $1.50 worth of postage, that is one thing, but it sounds like he's sending express.

Doesn't sound like a violation of ebay rules to me, just a bunch of people who are making assumptions and looking to complain about something that wasn't exactly kept a secret.

If he thought the guy was breaking the rules by charging $25 for shipping, then WHY BUY FROM HIM? Simple, because as usual in this hobby this is about someone trying to take advantage of a situation and unfortunately it didn't work out. The OP saw that the item was going to sell cheap because of high shipping costs and figured that he could buy it cheap and then renegotiate the shipping cost to get an even better deal.

Unfortunately it didn't work out, but like I said before and I'll say again, it was no secret that shipping would be $25.

I think people are misunderstanding what I am trying to ask. I have no problem paying the $25 shipping providing that the method used to ship it reflects that price (like someone said maybe they are shipping overnight) but I do have a problem like someone else said if they slap a stamp on it and send it out. So my question is, if it is the latter, what are my options?

It sounds like your are making your decision based solely on the amount of postage used. As others have (correctly) stated, the shipping cost is not just postage. It includes the postage, but also includes the packaging, the envelope/box, insurance or certificates of mailing, and (as some have said) the gas and time spent mailing the card.

The bottom line is that any discussions, or negotiations, you had with the seller regarding reducing shipping costs should have taken place before you bought the card, not after. Once you made the purchase, you accepted not just the purchase price, but the stated shipping and handling charges as well. To leave negative or neutral feedback would be unfair and disingenuous.

If you bid on the card after reading the S&H cost, you agree to the seller's terms and conditions.

Some things to bear in mind:

* It is shipping and handling, not postage, that people charge.
* eBay and PayPal take a cut of the S&H charge even though they do not provide that service to the seller. Of that $25, eBay/PayPal take over three dollars. Sellers that charge the actual postage fee as their S&H charge are actually losing money on every transaction they make.
* Businesses are entitled to charge a nominal handling fee in their overall S&H (it's the H part) because they have to cover incidental fees such as supplies, packing materials, etc.

IMO, like others have stated:

1 - You knew the shipping price, and shouldnt be that surprised he didnt charge actual shipping prices.

2 - I would hit the guy with a neutral and low stars .... after giving him the chance to make it right. Take a picture, send it to him, show him how much shipping cost and that you want a partial refund. If he ignores you, or you dont like the answer you get .... neutral, low stars, contact ebay
