True Aaron autographs anyways. He has used a ghost signer for years via Braves.
I also have been shut out on Scully with an zero for two. I doubt that I will try him again. I did the regular season just before all star break and sending to the stadium first week of season with him with no luck. I remember after one RTS a member sent me a PM saying to mail c/o his radio station out in LA and not c/o Dodgers. Sorry, I did not even take the time to look up and see who the radio station was or the address. That member might have had an inside track to a success with him, but I never followed through with another envelope. Should that work during the season, please let me know. Best of luck with your collection.
PS To the member who said they wish they had started earlier... No matter when you started you wish that you had started earlier. I remember reading stories where guys had written to Mantle c/o his restaurant in New York and gotten his signature. Even better where guys in the 60's and 70's had written asking golden age guys for old uniforms and gotten them for free or next to nothing. Granted I was not alive back then, but how the hobby has changed!

Vin Scully not a nice guy? Are you serious? I have had the pleasure of meeting Vin on several occasions, and whether he has signed or not, he has taken time to shake hands, pose for pictures, and flash his smile.
He just turned 86, and as many people know, no longer travels very far at all to do the games. His signature has gotten a little rocky over the last few years, as evidenced by his 2012 Cooperstown autographs, and the ones I have seen him do in person.
I am genuinely hoping you don't judge someone by how many autographs they sign IP/TTM, especially an 86 year old man who has cut down his schedule over the last 5 years.
Your PS couldn't be more true. As a fan of the 86 Mets, I got in before Gary Carter passed away, but I will never get two of the coaches from that team on the piece I have everyone else on. I have framed cuts of the two coaches, but it's just not the same. And if I can ever get Randy Myers... yeesh. Hardest signer on the planet.Last edited by jrlebert; 12-19-2013 at 03:05 PM.

Not getting Carter via his foundation while he was alive is one of my regrets. I picked his up after tracking down the photo that I wanted but it definitely wasn't cheap. Nor inscriped with HOF inscription either but no complaints here.

He was one of my very first autographs. I mailed to him as a Jr. High Kid with a card. He did not sign my card but sent back a personalized photo. He was one of my all time favs and I still have and treasure it:

When a deceased player like Gary Carter is a part of a project you are trying to complete, do you guys turn to E-Bay? I have never spent much time on E-Bay and I feel naturally averse to it for whatever reason. One autographed ball I'd love to get is Ron Santo's. Unfortunately, he was inducted to Cooperstown posthumously. Obviously the HOF inscription is unavailable. Anyway, the Bob Feller Museum seems to be a good source, however, the prices are beyond my willingness to pay in some cases. Just wondering if there are any other online stores like Bob Feller's or if you folks have other suggestions.

Only if they come certified by PSA or JSA. I will say that the Carter 8x10 I own not only has JSA certification but the logo that is on anything that had been signed by him via his foundation website.
I never even considered Santo before. If prices are affordable, I will consider adding his to my collection.

When used with caution, eBay can be an incredible collecting tool. If you keep an eye out, you'll be able to get most any autograph for half the price of what it sells for on official player websites. You just have to do your homework and make sure you only deal with reputable authentication companies (1st person or if you have to PSA or JSA).

I am one of those fool me once shame on you and fool me twice shame on me type guys. I got burned on an ebay purchase about a dozen years ago and have never went back. I hope that the site has improved, but trading here on SCF has been a much more pleasant experience.

I use it but look for dealers I know, or go by psa/jsa, upper deck or tristar and really don't go for anything not certified by them. But it's a great tool. I have been burned on boards before so there is a chance anywhere you can get burned.

I got burned earlier this year one a Ted Williams graph that was too good to be true. Contacted an authenticator only after I purchased so I was able to get a full refund thankfully.
