Pew Poll about Christmas and religion....
Since Fox News ALWAYS uses this time of the year to drum up their insanely moronic "War on Christmas" which they themselves started and fabricated.
I wanted to share some very interesting polls about Christmas and religion.
So, let's start with the most obvious one:

^As you can see in this pie chart, 51% of Americans do view Christmas as a religious holiday.....but 32% view it more as a cultural holiday which doesn't have to be religious, 9% see it as both or other.....OK, for the most part we see that the majority of Americans still view christmas as a religious holiday...
BUT THIS IS WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING!
Let's look at the demographics:

^WOW!!!!
Only 39% of Young people (18-29) Celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday.....think about that....the future of this nation is already at 61% that DOESN'T celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday....they see it as something else.
And here is why....

^It's a LANDSLIDE! People look forward to Christmas because it's a time to get together with friends and family, only 11% a very low minority like christmas for the religious aspects.....even though the majority still view it as a religious holiday, almost 70% don't actually look forward to it for it's religious connotations.
And it's no surprise, everyone loves christmas! Yes, even atheists such as myself LOVE Christmas, but we love it because this is a time of year to share time with our friends and family and have a good time together..
To conclude....HAPPY HOLIDAYS to everyone of you, whether you are christian, atheist, muslim, jewish, whatever....Get together with your friends and family and celebrate the seasons in a safe and joyous way.
You only have one life, make it count and appreciate those you love.
Seasons Greetings to everyone!Last edited by JustAlex; 12-18-2013 at 09:38 PM.

In mainstream society - Christmas has become far more about Santa & Presents, than anything to do with Jesus. I could go into what a joke any supposed "attack on Christmas" is, but that'd be a little off topic.
There is nothing in that poll that particularly surprises me - but I would suggest that you're jumping to conclusions that the data doesn't actually back up:
even though the majority still view it as a religious holiday, almost 70% don't actually look forward to it for it's religious connotations
The poll doesn't say that anywhere. It shows that nearly 70% are most looking forward to time with family & friends. That doesn't mean that those same people aren't looking forward to spending time at church, or any other religous aspet to the holidays they might have.

The only alarming stat I see, is 66 and 76% believe in Virgin Birth. There is your madness indicator, look no further.

one thing to keep in mind is people change with time, marital, and family status.
you can see this in voting habits of women, such as married to unmarried, and those with children vote differently.
56 percent of single mothers voted, as did 61 percent of unmarried women; meanwhile, 69 percent of married women with children voted and so did 72 percent of married women without kids.

I would love to see these same people polled in another 10-20 years, I guarantee there would be a change.

what exactly does this thread have to do with a hatred of christianity? I just saw stats about how people view christmas.
as for christmas, I'm theist and I participate in christmas. For me it's about being with family and just hanging out. Most of my family is christian to varying degrees so it was something we did growing up... like a lot of american families. I think christmas means lots of different things to lots of different people and that's perfectly okay. People get what they want out of it.
as far as the FOX "war on christmas"... it just cracks me up for the most part. One can say that the meaning of christmas has gotten more commercial over the past 30-40 years or so, but I don't see how anyone can sit there are act like there's an agenda to suppress christmas.

I was also very put off why the numbers of people who actually believe in virgin birth. It's shocking to me.

I think the "idea" of a war on christmas comes from people changing christmas party to holiday party, from wishing people merry christmas to saying happy holidays.
I know the last place I worked for changed the name of our annual christmas party to holiday party after some complaints to HR.

I am married to a Jew, the only thing that comes from the mouth of her Father is "Happy Holidays" which is really only uttered in the USA and is ridiculous, because Holidays would imply that you don't work, which is only for one day, not the plural.
Hannukah fell this year the day before Thanksgiving as was over long before the 2nd week of December, again, not relevant and people are not by law given any days off.
Happy Holidays sounds ridiculous …. period.
I say Happy Hannukah if I am addressing a Jew, and Merry Christmas if I am addressing a Christian. If addressing a Musim, a Jain, A Sikh, or Hindu, or a Buddhist, I say nothing.
"Season's Greetings" is a bit Diva as well, but it's streets ahead of Happy Holidays.Last edited by centrehice; 12-20-2013 at 12:38 PM.
