I agree with him. But this whole thread invites just that thing. We get it, people in power steal.

If you agree with him, why would you go against it anyway? That's self contradictory. Are you sure you agree?

Hmmm...I guess it is OK when Obama does it. A $1000 vase from the president of China, a $7750 Hermes golf bag from the president of France, a $9800 bronze statue of Abe Lincoln from the president of China, a $1500 gold coin from the president of Suriname, a $40,000 print from the governor of Rio de Janeiro, a $3200 gold and silver statue from a sheik in Qatar, a $52,000 sculpture from the president of Gabon...no big deal.

Now I am sure that everyone will be quick to jump to Mr. Obama's defense and say that he had to accept these gifts as a matter of state policy, but the simple reality is that when he is finished as president all of these gifts will belong to him and go with him. Net result, he will have gained hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars worth of gifts from people who had an agenda and sought preferential treatment or special consideration from him.

I am not defending the guy in VA or anyone else. Simply pointing out that every politician, even the illustrious President Obama, profits from gifts while in office.

What on earth do gifts given to a President by the heads of foreign states have to do with the OP story in which a Governor accepted gifts in exchange for promoting a fledgling company while in his official position?

Furthermore, the "simple reality" is that all the items you listed above that "belong to Obama and go with him" are already in the National Archives, where they will stay.

    Bush received 40,000 gifts
when he was President, do you think he took them all home with him?

I think what a president gets from other countries heads of state is a bit different than a politician (including a president) receiving loans and gifts from someone who is a U.S. citizen. Sure, those gifts can influence, but I think it's a bit more limited if one is trying to alter legislation here in the country versus country to country. Plus, aren't these gifts sort of typical for all presidents? Not saying that's right or wrong. Does a president give gifts to other countries heads of state? I would assume that we give things to other countries leaders at the same time, but not sure.

In my opinion, what this guy did is not much different than what all lobbyists do to all politicians, which is one of the biggest issues with today's political system. People and corporations who can give the most money to a politicians campaign get's his ear, for the most part. It's basically an accepted form of bribery.

Obama played a round of golf with Tiger Woods that cost US Taxpayers around 1 million dollars.

    I guess that is acceptable.
