Stamkos and the Olympics....
Does anyone else think he should voluntarily step aside now and give his spot to St. Louis? ( I realize it is not his position to decide his replacement, but he could endorse his teammate, and I think that would carry some weight. )
Given he has missed 35 games and 2 months of real competition, and St.Louis is in mid season form, and also been the best player since the announcement, I just don't see him being better than St.Louis even if he gets to play ONE NHL game before the Oly's. I might understand if Stammer was night and day better than St.Lou, but if anything, St.Louis is the more rounded player. when Stamkos plays, St. Lou is an Amazing play maker and sets up Stamkos for Some pretty easy goals...without Stamkos, he goes out and scores himself, pretty much carrying T-bay on his shoulders.
Some question St. Lou's speed and size which is absurd to me, the guy flys around the ice like a waterbug, and Chara mentioned St. Louis is the hardest for him to defend, because he is small, fast and shifty....
To me the Stamkos deal, all the drama and distraction to the team effort far out weighs any small edge his rusty skills may have over a red hot St.Louis.
Usually any debate like his will be more about which player you like more, but if you set that part aside, I think its just common sense for him to step aside.

He was interviewed on the Weekend, and he's good to go. He said his leg feels as strong as ever. Why does he have to step aside? Kunitz should step aside for St. Louis or Carter.

Yeah, if anyone should voluntarily give a spot away I would vote for Kunitz. Seriously, I could develop chemistry with Crosby within a week or so. A guy like Stamkos is one of the top players in the game, any rust he has will be gone within a couple of games.

We all could. Kunitz gets about 9-10 chances per game because of Crosby. Put him on a line with Bennett and Adams and he won't get 8 goals.

Ok, guess we are watching a different sports channel, Stamkos had to step back in his rehab due to discomfort yesterday, as for Kunitz, last game him and Crosby combined for 6 pts, with 3 each, and in the past, when Crosby was injured, his #'s didn't fall off...as for chemistry, it has been widely reported it is very hard for other players to figure out Crosby's style and mesh with him quickly.
Anyhoo, just my 2cts....

From what I saw, Stamkos stepping back was precautionary; as in, not wanting to damage something that has not yet fully healed. Which I can fully understand. While not the same injury, I once completely destroyed my knee, and there were times where I knew I COULD use it, but long term it was safer to strengthen it more prior to going 100%. Pretty sure that's what Stamkos and his trainers are going through.
As for Crosby and the supposed chemistry issues... While I haven't followed his career game to game, I've never seen a precipitous drop off in his production, even when lines are constantly being changed.

I can skate better than I walk or run, and I am an excellent runner, it's always been that way.

Stamkos isn't going to give up that spot if he's heathly. No way he should, no way he will.
If he's not ready to go (and that's going to be more in the hands of Tampa's doctors than his own opinions) they'll pull him from the team, and find a replacement.
Though the rumors are Giroux is the first one to get a spot, not St. Louis.
