Which is unfortunate when people are spending 100's -1,000's of dollars on products like these. This "case hits", which is what these are, should be reserved for good players, not overage-rookie scrubs. Just my opinion though.
As to the cut-off date I thought Artifacts usually waited until the end of the season to decide on everything. Maybe I'm wrong about that though.

You are indeed incorrect.
While they may not announce the lists until the end of the regular season there is always a cut-off date for new rookies to be eligible for inclusion in a card year's products. This is incredibly valuable and important to have. Otherwise, you'd see the companies scrambling to get a late season debut of a player in, and thereby limiting him to only a small number of late-season (and usually non-auto unless you want SP Authentic, Prime, Ultimate Collection, National Treasures, and Cup redemptions) RC's instead of a full crop of YG's, Select auto RC's, etc. Plus you have the early-season releases to consider - Score, OPC, etc. would be dead in the water without those hold-over rookies.
Lastly, the rookie redemption cards in Artifacts are NOT case hits. You get one redemption per box. It is a box hit.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I was talking about Rookie auto redemptions.
Having Freddie Hamilton as a Rookie auto redemption (a case hit) over Ryan Strome makes zero sense to me. the guy is a late, unimportant draft pick. Strome is a 1st rounder, 5th overall. No reason Hamilton should be auto RR # XV and Dekeyser #XX let alone Hamilton having one at all and Strome having none.
That is my point. People are spending 100's-1,000's of dollars on boxes/cases and coming away with case hits of Freddie Hamilton. Of all the players on the list this guy is the ugly duckling.
EDIT: And it's not like he's the sole player representing the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks have 3 players in the list, the Islanders.....0.Last edited by Chev-boyar-sky; 02-19-2014 at 04:15 AM.

There's always going to be one or two guys like that. I don't disagree that Hamilton and his 0 NHL points should be up on that list at the expense of a more deserving/collectible/productive player. But there is probably a valid reason for it at least as far as UD is concerned.
For Strome, take a look at eBay when you enter "Ryan Strome auto" - you get 0 NHL licensed cards. A handful of ITG releases but that's it. He didn't make his NHL debut until mid-December so UD may not have had sufficient sticker auto stock for the cards to be produced without any further delays. I would have thought he'd be at the Rookie Showcase for a signing session but I honestly don't know.
They have to go with what's available and in this case, they had supply for Hamilton and likely none for Strome.

I get some of the reasons, but I still think it's unacceptable.
Last year's auto RR redemption list was pretty solid with maybe the exception of Cory Conacher @ V. However, Hamilton makes him look like the second coming of Gretzky.
Bjugstad isn't eligible? Eric Gelinas? Others I can't think of?

Bjugstad is in the regular set.
Gelinas is eligible but wasn't chosen.
No matter what UD does, they can't please all the people all the time.
