Polarization in the US?

Hi, first of all I am a Norwegian living in Hungary. I have a question about polarization in the US. (is it like this or is it the european media telling us the extreme points?)

So since the US is a major inspiration/influence on us europeans I wonder, if your politics are so polarized as it seems to me.

Example: that everyone believe that climate change is either 100% natural or a 100% man made. (not a bit of both)

Does it bother you that there is only black and white in your congress? In Norway we have a lot of different parties, all having different oppinions, not being in "war" with each other. They dissagree on somethings and agree on other things. Often giving us more balanced answers/solutions.

For me it seems very frustrating, but again maybe only the extremists on each side gets media coverage.

As a Canadian it seems to me that is all correct, but the nation's politics does not fully represent the nation's people.

I can't really answer the questions though.

P.S. Norway has a hell of a hockey team. They're a couple of goal scorers away from contending for top 6.

yes the media is just showing the extreme,not much of a news story when people agree

out in public everyone gets along just fine,no riots or revolts,to each his own

in fact i just read a story about how europeans that come to the u.s.a. are surprised on how much americans smile

so i ask you, is it true that europeans do not smile that much?

Hello, and let me say that both Norway and Hungary (especially Norway, that place is awesome!) are fine countries which I'd love to visit one day.

So since the US is a major inspiration/influence on us europeans I wonder, if your politics are so polarized as it seems to me.

I view the EU as a much more progressive and liberal minded place with less religious nonsense and my inspiration is for the U.S to one day (even if I'm not alive to see it) to become like that.

Actually our Far Right Citizens believe climate change is a complete hoax.....all the scientists are lying and GOD is in control so there's no need to worry about anything.

The two party American political system is a horrible false dichotomy and one which continues to do MAJOR harm in this country.

For me it seems very frustrating, but again maybe only the extremists on each side gets media coverage.

If it's frustrating for a non-American, imagine how much more frustrating it is for us Americans who have to live here with this nonsense on a daily basis.

Imagine the infuriating and horribly stressful climate that we have here where the Far Right section of the GOP (which is the majority nowadays) continue to wage war on women, gays, science, the poor, and anyone who isn't a white christian male.

Trust me, political America is one huge cluster****.

If I may, the founding fathers of the US came from Britain (ie: Europe) in the name of progression and lower taxes. The USA was, at one point, the peak of progressive thinking. Europe took it and made it better.

Yeah I know the media is a big contributor to the black and white image.

In north of europe it is very true! they are more open and smiling in the south, as spain and portugal.
Actually americans are "freakishly" polite and happy for some of us europeans. Its quite sad :/ in the north people tend to be as cold as the weather.

I guess some of the countries are a lot more liberal, in scandinavia the church have soften up to new ideas, they keep their position by beeing more tolerant and accepting.

the far right alex speaks of, if just that, the far right. there are various opinions from believing it is a hoax, believing it is natural cycle, believing humans have contributed a little to it, and believing humans caused it all.

I think America is a lot like many countries in that it depends where you go and who you talk to, people from everywhere can be nice or jerks and somewhere in between.

In most other first world country they are not having a "debate" about whether or not climate change is real....we KNOW climate change is real.

The REAL debate is exactly as you have posted how much influence have humans contributed to it....almost all scientist are in agreement that humans have at the very least SOME culpability in climate change.

But our moronic GOP leaders all believe it's a conspiracy.

And to be perfectly honest.....some of them KNOW it's NOT a conspiracy but they like to say that in order to protect the big corporations that want to continue abusing the planet.

You gotta love the GOP, they'll literally put money and their careers ahead of the well being of the entire planet.
