$40/table is cheap. Back in the 90's tables were that price.

The cost of a table is only too high if the show isn't attracting enough people to spend money at them.

Don't know many youngsters aged 18 or less that have a wack of money to spend on 1 card. You need the lower end sellers to attrack the lower end spenders. So going by the garage sale example they made 15 bucks selling low end cards to small time buyers. To them thank you as this generates interest and possible colllectors who have a larger budget to spend on cards. in the future . Basically growing the HOBBY at it's roots. If he was at a card show that 15 bucks would have been a negative 25 or more so why do it?

How about a table or two where no card is over a buck or four for the small time buyers/sellers. As it would be harder to make the table fee back selling for .25 opposesed to selling for 25.00 that table fee would be way less than the sellers at 25.00 +

There are tons of low end cards at the shows, lots of people looking for them, and the vendors are making hundreds. The only way they wouldn't is if the show wasn't well promoted or if they don't have what the people coming to the show are looking for. If the show is well promoted and if they don't have what they're looking for then, I agree, they shouldn't set up at a card show and should stick with the garage sale. But that doesn't mean the table fees are too high. And, believe me, $40 is cheap.

    It's not that simple.

    Realize that.
Just remembering when I took my nephews to the shows. They always gravitated to the .25 or .50 bins on the tables. Alays spent their monies there seldom they would by cards at over a buck.
The whole hobby needs more youth not just the selling end of it.

Great post Frank! I'm under 40 but I gave up on shows since eBay was cheaper and easier. With increasing postal fees, $40 a table seems like a decent option for sellers. That being said, I only collect Roenick so I won't be a vendor anytime soon :)

I'll try to make it to the Toronto Card Show this spring but I'm out in Hamilton, so perhaps if I'm passing through the GTA during a day it is on.

Yeah, a table full of Roenick cards would only cater to a select group of collectors. :)

Actually, our introductory special is $25. Even cheaper. :) (But you still might not make enough money selling Roenick cards) ;)

Hope you can make it one day! We have a Double Header this Saturday & Sunday. Then it's our anniversary show on Sunday, April 13th.
