Patch/jersey card pet peeve
I saw another of these the other day. Just a minor annoyance...
When the patch or jersey piece doesn't match the jersey the player is wearing on the front of the card. Why do card companies do this? Yesterday I saw a Theo Fleury jersey card with a blue Rangers piece and the front had Fleury wearing a Flames jersey. Wouldn't the card look much better with him wearing a Rangers jersey? I know in his case he's best known as a Flame and all just using that card as the most recent example I've seen. '
Do card companies not have access to certain photos or license to use certain years? Or do they just not care and toss on a photo?

I think you answered your own question. In the case of ITG now, and Panini next year, they do not have a license, so photos are limited in terms of what can be used. However...I would like to think that in the case of ITG, they would make every effort to make what the collectors want and match it up. In the case of UD or Panini, I think that it is not the case of throwing on the photo, it is whatever pieces of jersey or patch of the player they have to fill in the gaps (if you believe that they are in fact the players pieces of jersey to begin with...)

It's a tough spot for them - they've invested a significant amount of money into acquiring a star player's jersey but said player was on 2+ teams in the course of his career.
Say we're talking about Patrick Roy. UD has, for the past few years, only had/used Colorado memorabilia in his cards. If I'm a Habs fan, my interest in a Roy Colorado card is pretty limited. Bad memories and all of that. But if it's a dual jersey with a current Habs goalie, I'm willing to overlook the Colorado memorabilia so long as it's a Montreal image being used.
They know it's frustrating for collectors to see mismatched images/memorabilia, but they're limited by budgetary constraints and the need to try to appeal to as many fans as possible. So that's somewhat forgivable.
This, on the other hand...
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

lol.
You know how that happened though..... that card is from 11-12, and the 10-11 was a redemption. I'm guessing "ice" part of the cards were sent to the player, and then inserted after the fact. They just forgot to make half of them Bruins, becuase here's the earlier one:

NOT 1 of my Lafleur cup cards match up! Not a huge deal, but they have pictures of lafleur in ALL uniforms on different cards! The scripted swatches- rangers jersey, the other has yellow in it,so deff not montreal. Limited logo-quebec,Honorable numbers-rangers,rangers,quebec. Scripted numbers-rangers, SPA-all star game. Im a player collector, I don't care what uniform its from!

On the Lafleur, could the yellow/orange have come from NHLPA events after he retired? I have heard that some of the old timers GU cards in newer products especially are from those sanctioned "retiree" events they sometimes hold.

I assumed that's what is was from and that's fine with me, But just say so. All the others say where the piece came from. If its game used, from a photo shoot, dinner event, golf outing ect...just put it on the back! Collectors like to know what they are getting.
