Wax Addict who needs help
Could someone just tell me I do not need to keep buying boxes and cases. Most times when I pose this question I am influenced to buy more. There is a rush I get before a break that must be my 'high'. I feel guilty after buying a case or two and then a little upset when I have a bad box. I am trying to stop myself from buying a 13-14 sp authentic hockey case right now. I guess if they do not release it I will not buy it. Any opinions on why wax breaking is so much fun and who else is addicted. Singles are fun as well and easier on the wallet but you do not get the same high.

Stop busting wax. It is a waste of time and money! If you get a high from busting, you have an addiction problem.
There are three reasons, which are so nicely outlined by this SCF member in this thread (which you commented in):

You told me you have lots of cards left over from busting wax.
I do not wish to offend you, but you honestly need help for this. Think of the money you have spent and how little you got out of it. The risk far outweighs the reward.
I am willing to guess that you have experienced more lows than highs when you busted wax.

Part of it is the rush and the other is I just like to open packs and look at the cards. Often I am fine without making my money back. For instance, I bought some cases of Bowman today from 2012-2014 and am going to have a ball and most likely to get my money back. I can trade sell and keep some to grade. Would I be better off buying singles? yes. I still buy singles but my urge to bust wax is strong and it never gets old.

Just check out the box breaks on this board. After seeing a couple brutal breaks it will squash any desire to bust more boxes.

doesn't anyone else enjoy breaking wax for fun. I realize it can be expensive but it is still fun. I love to see inserts and various cards. It is fun to sell and trade with people who want what you hit. A few more steps than singles but very fun.

I fill my wax breaking wants with discounted older boxes. Tonight I'm breaking a box of Topps Total 02-03, and I ordered a couple of Pacific boxes for next week.

Again, many people cannot afford to break wax, and I think with the price of boxes/cases of high-end product, they really are viewed as investments. When the box/case yields less than desirable results they feel they have wasted their money. When you waste money like that, it is hard to call it 'fun'.

Busting wax can sure be fun, I only really like products where there's not a huge gulf between 'good stuff' and 'filler' material. Stick Work was fun, virtually every card had an interesting piece of stick that could stand on its own whether it was a superstar or a 3rd-liner, wish there were more products like that where every card was at least meaningful.

Busting wax is fun because it's gambling. Like throwing dice at a craps table, slots machines, etc. Pulling the handle of a slot machine is like opening a pack of cards. Could get three cherries or complete garbage. "What's going to pop up. I could hit big!"
I agree singles aren't as fun as opening packs but if you are chasing PC cards it's the safer, less expensive route.
I usually buy a box with the intention of pulling something different that equals or exceeds the money I put into the box in hopes of trading it for a card I really want. Like buying a box of UD1 at $65 and pulling a MacKinnon YG. There are definitely certain cards in each release you have in mind when you buy the box and start opening the packs.
I think in the end if you can afford to keep buying boxes and cases and it's not putting a financial strain on you and you're having fun you should keep doing it. Everyone should have a hobby they enjoy. Guilt-free that is ;)
