Wax Addict who needs help

I love busting wax as well but if I am into building a set I tend to buy 1 or 2 boxes and then complete the missing cards by purchasing the other singles I need.

When I have bought cases, I usually convince 3 or 4 people to join me. We share the base cards to build sets and any autos or inserts go to auction where we can bid for them ourselves or sell them to other buyers who help pay for our case. On other occasions we roll a die and draft the cards we want if the difference in value is negligible.

Yup. Love it too. Take the ups with the downs. It's bad sometimes when you go to the LCS for a couple packs of top loaders, then see he just broke a case of a new product, so you ask how much? Then say pass me a box.... Break it right at the store, then decide that maybe the bottom one will be more lucky... Then maybe the middle one or one with an odd number serial number, but because it's an even amount of boxes left there's two middle ones so you break those too....then get a nice hit so you stop...or decide to do one more because your at $560, but one more would be an even $700....which while riding the high ain't a big deal until you leave and then think "what the hell was I thinking?!" And you feel like ™™™™....or depending on how you did, you leave excitedly, knowing just the guy who would trade for that card:) or knowing you can sell and recoup most or all of the cash(rarely) and then you can return to do it all again!:) group breaks are another addictive little collecting thrill as well. So basically your not alone MW there's lots of us out there.

this post was pretty funny. I like busting a case to increase my odds of doing well. I know you can still have bad cases but with just one box you can either do very well or be demolished. I also like products where even a bad box you still retain some value compared to what you paid for the box. With this said I am checking out with an order of a couple cases of bowman baseball ha. I tried to stay sober but I need help.

- Buying a pack of cards is like buying a scratch off lottery ticket--------usually you don't get back what you've invested.
- Buying a box of cards is like making a small investment------you might or might not recover your purchase price over time.
- Buying a case of cards is like making a larger investment------you might or might not recover your purchase price over time.

Buy selectively at card shows and on ebay. You know what you're getting for what you're paying. You start doing that on a regular basis and you no longer need to satisfy your "high." Also, gone is the guilt of spending too much or the disappointment of getting a lot of what you don't want. You also start discovering that there are other more important things that NEED YOR MONEY than cards. They've been around for 100 years and will be around for another 100 years; so missing out on the "latest and greatest" release will soon become ancient history by the time another release comes out (often by the same company).

If I sound like your father, it's probably because I'm probably old enough to fill that role. Trust me, life goes on. The only person to disagree with me on this post will be the CARD COMPANIES!

Yes very true. I really do not buy a whole lot aside from wax. No nice clothes and rarely expensive dinners. I enjoy wax the most of anything and need to cut back but had the urge for some Bowman cases. I bought 5. I need to take a break now after I break these. I will try to be better but my want to break wins out a lot. I bought singles exclusively for 15 years until a year ago. Singles are smarter but way way less fun.

Try picking a few teams and buying them in an online case break. Your costs are way down, but the thrill or suspense factor is still there.
