UD Blog: Making the Cut - See How Upper Deck Cuts Game Used Jerseys for UD Premier!

    http://upperdeckblog.com/2015/04/mak...hl-ud-premier/

The first step is placing the grid over the rare material that is sized to the trading card specifications. Then we move to stamp it out to those specifications, but also in a way that would allow a hobbyist to potentially put pieces of this puzzle together.

Jonathan Quick’s cut patches from a Los Angeles Kings game-used jersey should be a big draw for collectors!

Steve Mason’s cut chest logo from this Philadelphia Flyers game-worn jersey will look very cool if put together, even in sections.

Morgan Reilly’s chest logo patch cards in UD Premier will have collectors salivating!

Brendan Holtby’s game-used jersey will have all sorts of cool patches used for the Mega Patch cards in UD Premier!

Commemorative logos from patches on game-used jerseys will add much to UD Premier!

Shoulder logo patches will create a ton of buzz as well!

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

They can pretend that they don't use some of those pieces with the tiny little piece of patch in the corner but I have pulled enough of them over the years to not be fooled.

If you follow the segments above for each patch that was cut up they are suggesting that they will only use the pieces that are completely patch. My patch hits over the years suggest otherwise so maybe you have been luckier than most?

I guess the lesson here is to wait and see. If the print run for a Quick patch is 28 and not 18, be afraid. Beeeeeee verrrrryyyyyyy affffraiiiiiid!

I'm not too sure about the pretending, the pieces they've shown above include some pretty tiny patch pieces... the upper right Caps logo, bottom left and right Kings and Leafs logos, right hand edge of the Flyers logo. They have to walk a fine line between throwing out too much of the patch and leaving someone who actually manages to put the whole print run together with a logo that's missing significant detail, vs. trying to ensure everyone who pulls one at least gets a decent amount of patch material, really hard to make everyone happy here. Heck, even if you get an all patch card from the middle row of the Flyers logo you could be lookjng at 99 pct black with a sliver of stitching, yet they can't really leave that out... damned if they do, damned if they don't I suppose. I just hope they make them hard to swap out for fakes, nothing worse for the true completionist to put together all but one of the puzzle and find out someone faked the last sliver patch with some 'sick' swatch (we've already seen a fake Neely surface from Prime Colors i believe).

Why would they show stuff thats not gonna end up in the product? that would make no sense to me.
