Did Upper deck promise a redemption free product? Did I miss something? Every year spa has redemptions and short prints. Part of the chase. (Also part of why I don't build the set anymore) speaking of that I just came across an 08/09 spa josh Bailey if anyone is interested

I'm normally pretty easy going regarding redemptions for rookie autos, but 17? And it's not like these guys were late additions to their teams this year; save for a few, they were part of the team since the beginning of the year.

Is it UD's fault that they players didn't sign in time? What can UD do to force someone to sign 1000+ cards by a certain time. I am sure UD would love to have non redemptions, but SPA has this every year.

Yes? Remember last year, when Panini released Dominion and it had a bunch of hard-signed rookies? That came out late December or possibly early January IIRC. Some of the hard-signed guys from that release were redemptions in SPA when it came out in June! Some of those FWA cards STILL haven't been released!
I'm not a superfan or basher of either company, but I feel like we would have seen hard-signed Panini rookies months ago, if they were still around.

Dominion would have all these guys signed last December. ...
UD probably can't afford anything anymore...

Yes, they can pay them. Or, they can make use of their network of Diamond Dealers and local contacts to have those guys make an appointment with the player, show up with the cards and a cheque, and witness all the signings.
I live in a city that is home to over a hundred NHL'ers in the off-season, and is a few hours away from Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton. It would be so incredibly easy for UD to establish a network in this area for players when they're in town to do their signings.
SPA does have *some* redemptions every year, but to have 17 rookies as redemptions, including all the tops guys except Drouin and Ekblad, is unacceptable.
If they delayed SPA this long and decided that they still had to go ahead with it with this much non-live product, imagine what a nightmare it could be facing them for Premier and Ultimate.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...
