Terrible 50/50 Baseball Season

Wow. I can't even start on how bad this 50/50 season was. I did 9 50/50s. Only 1 was successful to this day.


1. I accidently bought the wrong thing on eBay. So I contacted this guy who could take them thru Instagram. He deleted his Instagram but gave me a kik and then his address. I sent to this guy for 50/50. I sent him 4 Jorge Bonifacio cards. He said he'd get them signed, but this was back in April. Well, he wouldn't respond to me until a month ago. He said he'd send them, but they never got here.

2. The next one was again thru Instagram. This guy (not going to give his name) said he could take 20-25 of my cards for 5 different teams. He was updating me, so it was good. He got 3-5 signed for me. But, he wouldn't respond to me. He left Instagram, but finally came back. I keep asking him, did you send? He says Yes. But I never got it. Calling it a fail.

3. Next one was another Instagram guy. He said he'd get my 30 cards signed cause he'd see the guys when they played his home team, Albuquerque. Yet, he didn't go to any of the games. he won't send my cards back. He says "A 50/50 is where if I don't get them signed I keep them".

4. With a guy named Brian Klatts. I sent him 6 cards. After I showed him I sent, he blocked me.

5. Through Instagram, again. I sent this kid 5 Michael Conforto cards. He sent me 5 Aaron Nola cards. It was like a trade to get them signed for each other. To make a long story short, I sent him his Nolas but I never got my Confortos.

6. Another Instagram one. This kid got 14 consignments cause all he was charging was 3 Starlin Castro cards. Right after he got all 14 consignments and Castro cards, he deleted his Instagram. The 14 of us did write letters to his parents, but only one guy got a response. It was from the kid saying No.

7. The next 2 are "Pending". So, I did a 50/50 with Tyler Josefsen for the Houston Astros. I sent him a SASE but it got lost in the mail. So he send them back signed without a SASE, but it gets returned to him because of a large postage due. I have to now send him $5 to pay for that, so I can get my cards.

8. This man/kid, Jack Polizzi did these New York Mets 50/50s with me. He keeps going on and off Instagram, so it's hard to keep in touch. But, I did get his phone number, so I hope I can get my cards. Got them today!!!

9. Only 50/50 Success. Was with Bryan (@IPGraph98) on Instagram. I sent him 4 Ross Ohlendorf cards. Got two back signed in blue. Thank you!

sounds to me like you shouldnt use instagram.

why use that when you have great sites and trading forums?

I believe he means that Instagram is an unregulated system with no rules and no repercussions, just blind trust from one anonymous person to another anonymous person. I would never trade using a system like that.

That's exactly what I mean. With no feedback or trade manager system, you never know who you are dealing with and you have no follow through if someone rips you off. I know for a fact that many people who sell/consign/trade on Instagram do it there because they have gotten kicked out of forums like this due to negative feedback. My advice is to use one of the many forums like this one that provide some protection from scams.

I feel your pain. I can't seem to get a 50/50 to be successful. People just keep your stuff and you have no course of action. It's not just an Instagram thing. Happens on this site all the time too! I think I've retired from trying to do them!

I've been using Twitter as my main avenue for 50/50s. After this year, I am strongly thinking about never doing another because I keep getting ripped off. It is so disappointing. I mean, do these people really need a bunch of cards for minor league guys so bad that they need to rip off people?
