Case break questions???
Hi all,
i see these live case break videos on YouTube and have a few questions on them...
basically, how do they typically work?
Are there any out there available from reputable people/companies?
How much will it cost?
Do you receive all the cards in a break, or just autos/gu's
ill probably have more questions

Great questions!
Case breaks work just like any other break. Once a certain number of spots in the break are filled, the box(s) will be broken and the cards will be given out to each person in the break on a usual team-by-team basis. For example, if you had Montreal in the break, you would receive all the Montreal Canadians cards in the break.
In the past, I've done breaks with Cloutsnchara. They break a lot of products and always host different box/case breaks. They are a Diamond Dealer, very reputable guys. Although I have not done many breaks in my hobby "career", I've had no complaints at all with Cloutsnchara.
The cost will vary on a break-by-break basis. If you chose a good team with a lot of solid rookie potential (Edmonton, etc), in a UD The Cup break, the entry fee for selecting a certain team will be a lot more than selecting a team like Toronto or New Jersey, for example. Depending on the year, product, and size of the break itself will ultimately determine how much it will cost to enter. If you enter a lower-end product break (O-Pee-Chee, MVP, etc), the cost to enter the break would be lower.
There are also things like "team randoms" which randomize each person who entered into the break. Once each name is randomized, a team will then be given to you, not chosen. The upside is that each person who enters the Group Break will only pay a single, fixed amount to enter. So you could get more value this way if you happen to hit a higher-end team in the break, or hit a really nice card. Downside is that if you enter a random you could end up with a "bad" team in the break. There really are no "bad" teams, as each team does carry some mathematical potential of hitting a big card in some products, just that the rookie class for that team is probably very low, thus less-wanted by collectors.
Will you receive all the cards in the break? it depends on the product and maybe on the breaker. If you open a lower-end product such as OPC you may not receive the base cards, as they are 'worthless' to a lot of collectors and don't really hold value at all. I'm sure some breakers may include base if you really, really need them for your collection. You would usually end up getting all the "hits" in the break. Cards like autos, patches, parallels, etc. Although in high-end products, the base cards are usually numbered and more limited (The Cup, etc), so in those cases you would receive the base cards.
Sorry about my rant, if you have any other questions feel free to ask :)Last edited by creasecollector; 01-06-2016 at 09:35 PM.

Awesome question, I just stumbled upon these as well today and came here to ask about it. What are people's personal experiences, would you do it again? Was thinking of paying for the oilers on a couple, would you do it, has anyone paid to get the hits in the past. How did you do?

I've never chosen the Oilers. Nothing against the Oilers haha, just haven't had the money to spend on a High-End break with the Oilers.
Would I do it again? Yes! For sure. Although every collector gets burned now and again with breaks, it sure is a rush hoping for some hits with your team. I actually hit one of my biggest PC hits ever in a Group Break once. Fun times.
I've seen some awesome breaks with the Oilers before. No guarantee of course, but the Oilers can make for some nice hits. I say have fun, but know the risk involved. You could possibly end up paying good money and end up with no hits at all. You have to weigh the Risk/Reward factors own you own before proceeding.
Good luck ! :) In my experience it's always fun sitting back and watching someone break some boxes.Last edited by creasecollector; 01-06-2016 at 10:17 PM.

It's hit or miss but recently I had really good luck with box breaks/case breaks. I do all mine off of hockey groups on Facebook and occasionally do one off of eBay. A few weeks ago I won a Black Diamond dual diamond relic of Rantanen /5 that I spent $6 on Colorado.

I should definitely make a "best group break hit" show and tell thread.

Get your popcorn ready!
Edit: So I did a thing.
The "Show off your Best Group Break" Thread is born:

Also, I'm excited for your 2 cents, Scott!Last edited by creasecollector; 01-06-2016 at 11:05 PM.

Where are the better sites to go to fir group breaks, are there smaller and cheaper ones or usually cases only? Where should a guy start?

Depends on the breaker and what Group Breaks they decide to offer. I would suggest checking out CnC (In my experience, I've only done GB;s with them. I'm not a very experienced group break participant, so other members might know of a few other guys to check out.)

Cloutsnchara are fantastic, as well as Breakaway, 643 BoxBreaks, and Out of the Box Breaks all come to mind when selecting fair and honest dealers. I found all of them on breakers.tv
Would I do it again? Yes! It's the only way I collect now.
I've bought team selects and done well and been fortunate enough to hit edmonton in a few team randoms and landed a Mcdavid each time! for $50 a break (my average break) it's a lot of fun!
I rarely break due to my budget, but if I do, it's through an online group breaker
