    PC Question

How do you keep your PC interest going when card manufacturers stop producing cards of your No. 1 player? My main guy has played 222 games in the NHL, yet hasn't had a card released in five years (since his rookie year). The most common card I have yet to get of him is serial numbered to 10, so, as you can probably guess, I have a hard time adding cards of him.

I think where you go from here is up to you in all honesty because obviously your PC needs to meet your criteria but I'll throw out some things I did. I personally, wouldn't want to get rid of a PC that I put a lot of effort and time into so maybe you could try expanding what your PC is somehow. For example, I tried to get into player collecting but for a few reasons I just decided to go with a Flyers PC. This allowed me to pick up a card of anyone pictured in a Flyers jersey while also keeping my spending within reason (current college student and have been collecting Flyers since HS).

With that said, maybe you could expand your interest by making your Prosser PC the #2 PC to a Wild PC (if that's your team) and if Prosser gets new cards you just make him your top priority for awhile. Another thing along the same lines is maybe a second player PC. If you go this route I'd recommend just trying to decide on a player that has enough cards to keep you searching but that you also really enjoy to watch or have some connection with.

I've never had the issue of having manufacturers stopping production on a player of mine because my PC is a team but in all honesty, I think you just ride that out and expand the PC because you'll have the joys of an essentially limitless PC while also having that search on the other.

Edit: Just saw you have other autographs and things as part of the Prosser PC and maybe you could keep going after "oddball" items of his as well.

I do have a pretty decent Wild collection (601 cards, not including rookies, which I sort/store differently), but I also open it up to players that were traded to Minnesota immediately following the release of a product, and players that have been traded away but still wear a Wild Jersey on the card. Then, as far as rookies go, I collect a RC from every player that has ever played for/been drafted by Minnesota. So, I stay busy, I guess, but I wish there were more stuff for me to collect for my Prosser collection.

Yeah, the whole lack of card production I think you'll just have to deal with unfortunately. I mean like I said you can always try to go after oddball items of his but I know there's only so much of that, similar to the card problem. Maybe you'll get lucky and he'll get some more cards in the future and I hope he does so you can get out of that slump. Whatever you do though, keep the PC. I know you probably will since it could get lumped into the Wild PC but when you have the percentages and other things you have and you think about the time put into searching for cards, I think you'd find it more valuable to just hold onto it all.

Oh, heck yes, no way I'm getting rid of this collection. Outside of his own memorabilia that he and his family have, I'm pretty darn sure this is the best Prosser collection in the world. Best part is, he knows it, too. 😎

Time to move and find a new player to enjoy. I've pretty much accepted that Gorges is gonna get OPC cards and that's it now that he's out of Montreal.

My main PC guy I will never have this issue with, but I do get periods of VERY slowness. I have certain shows I go to for vintage Topps, and I am happy if I get one or two when I go. So I would say, variety and make sure they are different enough to keep you going. My issue is when I usually spend money on one, a whale shows up on the other. So it is all about balance.

That's a great question. I am mainly a set collector. At first, it was everything for 07-08 Ultra and then 07-08 H&P. When that slowed down, it turned into 11-12 Contenders. Every year that goes by, makes it harder and harder to find stuff I need from these sets. During 13-14, with the big dual class, I decided to do the Young Guns sets for the first time. I also collected Wild rookies for the first time also, from that year. Young guns are fun to collect because they're not that difficult. I'm now working backwards on Young Guns sets as a side project. My 13-14 Wild rookies collection, turned into a big Brodin PC collection, which I'm always looking for him now.
Basically, I have many side projects going on, so there is always stuff to look for. My 07-08 Ultra set stuff is still my main PC wants. I will always look for and overpay for that stuff over anything else. Finding other stuff (players/sets)to collect, will always keep thing interesting. It looks like you have some side projects, but maybe try to add something from 15-16 that will keep you really busy, while still trying to find Prosser stuff.
As a side note, it is amazing that Prosser came from no where. Never even being the best player on any of his teams and becoming an NHL "regular." To me, his career has become just as respectable as Paully Martin. That's two pretty good Dmen from a little town wedged between 169 and 10...
I collect anything I need from 07-08 Ultra hockey..07-08 Heroes and Prospects.
Looking for JONAS BRODIN cards I need........also any YG's I need from various years

My favorite player retired back in 2000. Some years I get a lot of stuff to chase, other years not so much.

I have never ONLY collected Bill Ranford stuff though. I do sets, I collect Oilers stuff. Always lots of other things to keep me interested and active in cards.

My PC player (Alexei Zhamnov) hasn't had a card made since 2005. So that being the case, my collecting focus has changed over the years. While I still have many to get in the backlog, he isn't a big name. So my focus has been on my other collections.
