Team collector - from the beginning I`ve collected every card of a player if its logo shows it as a Predators card . I`ve got lots of every player in Preds history and still pick up former players - recently I grabbed a bunch of Hamhuis and Hartnell cards that I didn't have from back in their Nashville days - not sure exactly how many total cards that I have but I do know its 6 monster shoe-boxes of sorted GU/AUTO , INSERTS and parallels - soon to spread into a 7`th -- then 3 or 4 of the 5000 count boxes of base - but most of its not sorted out .By team collecting everything ( from Cup RPA`s to OPC base I`m missing )there's so much that I need I can have patience and just buy as the good opportunities arise .

I have one hockey player collection (Fedorov) and I have a modest Capitals collection that I really don't pursue, but if I did, I had thought about limiting it to one or a few team sets depending on which ones looked the nicest or had the most different players in them. Or I might just collect GUs and Autos and get one of every significant player through the years. Some people just like the current team, or the members of a championship team, or the team they remember the best.
Nice part is, you can do it any way you want and can afford. You set your own parameters, and change them however you desire....

I'm a player collector myself :) Before I really focus my collecting habits on a few select players, I just collected goalies i liked to watch on TV, then went from there.
My main player collection is Jhonas Enroth. Before starting the PC, I really liked the way we played the game. Also, as a smaller goaltender myself, I could relate a little bit of how impressive his game was, technically speaking from a goaltenders point of view. When Enroth was traded from Buffalo, to Dallas, and now LA, it didn't phase my collection one bit - I was actually excited for the trade to be honest. It would give my Enroth collection a little more variety and that's pretty cool.

I have been collecting only Johnny Gaudreau cards ever since I saw him play in October 2014. I would still collect him even if he gets traded.

I live in Pittsburgh and I saw him play at the three rivers classic with BC. Saw his crazy goal right in front of me. He was amazing, so I would do the same if I collected him!! I love the collection so far! Looks amazing keep it up!

I've seen your PC's and love all of your threads and reply's! Keep those collections going! As for myself I feel you. I play D1 College hockey and I will tell you, even though I would consider myself more talented then most, and not trying to be jerk when I say that, but being drafted into a couple leagues myself, NHL players are on a whole other level. As everyone would guess.

RT28 - Who do you play for?
As a person of modest means, I have a different approach. I do neither.
I tried team and player collecting but, depending on the player you collect, it can be difficult and expensive you get EVERY SINGLE card of that player, or team.
I focus on rookie cards of the best players, usually from SP Authentic - if they have one in that set - if not, I get the most decent one possible. Since I'm not team-specific, there's no frustration if a player gets traded either.
One card, for each player, that's it. I save space, time, and money. The money I save goes towards upgrades of what I have. If I have a raw Johnny Gaudreau Future Watch Auto for example, I may look to upgrade to a BGS 9.5 gem mint copy.
Speaking of graded cards, check out my PC sections here:
