Am I The Only One Who Prefers To Trade With BV?
That being said, I don't have a beckett subscription, BUT I just find it much easier to make trades (for the most part) when we have book values. There are certain situations where BV is wayyyyy off and in those cases I think that trade value is much better.

I still use it as a general guideline as well. I understand eBay is more current, but not everything sells evenly or consistently, and not all cards go up there very much. It makes sense to use eBay to do cross-checks on sales prices for some of the higher-end cards, but it's quicker to use book value when you're dealing with more cards, especially ones with lower value.

I prefer it as well in all sports. Sad thing is,I can not afford $300 a year for Beckett online. So Ebay and semi trusting other members on pricing is the way to go. I say that cause I really dont collect Basketball and very little Baseball. So when I have stuff to trade, its harder to move cause I have no clue of the values! I do know this,im not trading a Lebron rc for a handfull of inserts of Spud Webb, lol!!

$300 a yr? That must be for all the sports. I just do $8 a month for the basketball OPG, so $96/yr total.

I use the sold feature on eBay and if I can't find the card there, then I'll go by Beckett. My Knicks collection though has taught me that Beckett is not ALWAYS right in their values. One player in particular being Larry Johnson. At the same time I know some people bid up their own cards too. I just take everything with a grain of salt and go with my gut.

That used to drive me nuts when I was collecting Jordan's more intensively. There were BASE cards (right after his second retirement) that would go for $15 BV, people would end up offering me that card and wanting some of my best GU or AUTOS for it. I think I ended up picking up some of those Jordan's from 50 cent bins at card shows. So BV can be deceiving. Also no way I am paying $100 a year to tell me what my cards are worth, I end up asking the member I am trading with OR just going with eBay sold values.
Do you think this still goes on? eBay cannot possibly know whose bidding their friends auctions up. That's unfortunate, I always wonder why I never get what everyone else gets for the same card when I sell. I always thought it was because I am an international seller, but even when I sell items that ship from the US (there is a service here in Toronto that takes packages over the border and sends through USPS) I still never get SV on my cards.

That is Total Access. They have one package that is $500 !! Thats crazy !! If I owned a LCS or bought or sold more cards on a everyday thing or as my main source of income. Then I see dumping that kind of paper on it!!! This is just my hobby to kill time and to keep me out of trouble (sorta). I stay in trouble with the wife!!
When I first got back into collecting I use to collect everything!! When the price's on box's,packs and online pricing went up. My collecting habits changed fast!! Sad thing is,I still collect to much and cant keep up or offered my addiction!!

iT STILL HAPPENS!! Im in a couple Fakebook (Facebook) groups and read some crazy stuff!! Plus it all depends on who and when your trying to sell it. For example, trying to sell certain football cards will not bring as much as they would in November. I dont sell much but when I do I try to sell by what sport is in season. Unless I pull something worth selling.

I feel the same way about my collection I just wait, unfortunately with Jordan there is always a demand, but for raptors, I know once they rookie year hype is gone then the prices drop down to normal. Last year people were going crazy for Bruno Cabocolo (WHO??) and now they are starting to normalize, I think in 3-4 years if he slips into obscurity then I will pick up more cards of him.

It really doesn't matter to me. I'll trade by anything the other person wants as I'm not really too strict with stuff. What I don't like is people who insist they go by BK but then they have no way of looking it up. These people then tend to get mad at you for not having a Beckett subscription which is ridiculous because one I don't care about book value as much as you do and two I'll never give Beckett money for online pricing.
