    Kids first box help.....

    Hello Everyone,

Newbie here, but I wanted to get some opinions on what would be the best box to get for my son.

I used to be an collector years ago and now my son has shown interest in collecting hockey cards now as well. We will be heading to the Expo this weekend and I would like some thoughts on which box you guys would recommend for his first "hobby box"?

We've purchased blaster boxes before but I want him to experience something a little better so any recommendations on what to go for would help.

I'm looking in the $100 range so what would be the best box to go for with the best chances of some decent hits? Artifacts? UD Series 1 or 2? etc. etc.

    Thanks

At the expo, I would go for the hot thing: a box of UD1. Is there a redemption program if you break the box at the UD booth this year? Also, if he pulls a Matthews, he can sell it while it's hot and buy a few more boxes!

UD Series 1 is a great choice. It's a popular product, highly collectible, contains Young Guns rookies, arguably the Rookie card to collect, and just the right price range for you.

I'm sure you'll both be pumped for any product you choose, so best of luck with this exciting process! Enjoy your box break :)

I'd go with the above and say grab a box of UD1 to open. You will get a lot of cards, plus some of the most sought after RC's of the season with the YG's.

If looking you for a cheaper option and make the fun last longer you might be able to pick up 2 boxes of 16-17 MVP, but like everyone else has said if looking for just one box grab series 1

Awesome, thanks for all the help so far.

He's loving the Timmies cards that we've been getting for him and he's pulled a few McDavid Franchise Force and Clear Cut Phenoms already.

Now it's just teaching him how to keep them in good condition and not insert them into his bicycle spokes.

My thought would be OPC. You can probably get a couple of boxes for the price of UDS1...and teach him the joy of set collecting and that it's okay to enjoy cards that aren't huge hits. IMO, there's way too much of that in the hobby.

I'm in the same boat you are with my 4 year old son. After hockey practices on Saturdays & Sundays we were hitting Tims for cards... I'm going to have to pick up some S1 just to have a pack for him after every practice.

You can always grab Series 1 from last year if he's looking for a McDavid rookie.
