"Update" Cards as Hits?
What are your feelings on cards from previous releases being included in current year products?
I can understand why Upper Deck wants to be able to use those cards, which may not have been issued as redemptions for one reason or another, as it would be foolish to just leave them sitting in the warehouse unless they're going to be redemption replacements for other cards.
But when you're opening some 15-16 SP Authentic it can be pretty frustrating to get a 13-14 Sign of the Times card and have it count as one of your three guaranteed autograph hits.
What would be the best thing Upper Deck can do about these cards?
Post your thoughts and if this gets enough momentum I'll be sure to forward the thread to their social media.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

I would say dont even put them in the packs. If I am buying say 15/16 packs I want cards from 15/16. If I wanted 13/14 cards I would buy packs from that year. I am sure they could find a better way to use them than dumping them on unsuspecting collectors. Unless of course the card was some HIGH END player. Then I quess you couldnt complain. But a nobody card. WRONG

Could release them as a all hit mini box for like 50 bucks. that would be a interesting thing because with the way SPX and Black Diamond changed over the years it would be just same as those two products.
However if they made a great affordable price under 100 bucks hell even 80 would be better somewhere between 50-80 for 4 of these 'never before seen' cards would be pretty cool. But what do i know :P

I think they should do like Panini, keep the cards and have them as backups for expired redemptions. Panini will send you something even if it's expired.
Good way for UD to get rid of their junks. Half the times the players you're getting aren't even playing for the teams shown on the card. Garbage.

I think if they are going to included them in current products they should be considered a extra hit. Say your box is guaranteed-
- 1 Future Watch Rookie Autograph
- 1 Additional Autograph
- 1 Autograph or Spectrum Parallel
- 1 Spectrum Parallel
- 14 Inserts
If a update card is to be included in your box the break down should be this-
- 1 Future Watch Rookie Autograph
- 1 Additional Autograph
- 1 Autograph or Spectrum Parallel
- 1 Spectrum Parallel
- 14 Inserts
- 1 UD Update card
OR they could just keep them till they have enough and issue them out in a box like the Buy Back series

They honor expired redemptions.

Some good ideas in here, using them for expired redemptions is the best one. If not that, then they should be given out as swag at card shows.
They most definitely should not be included in future year products.

If included in future year products (15-16 in a 16-17 product) then they should be a bonus hit I think. Most people opening this years product want to hit this years players, especially with everything being so rookie driven. When you open up OPC Platinum and you are only getting 1 hit, I can see where it would be frustrating to get a 15-16 rookie auto.
