Has anyone else ever had this thought?

Wasn't sure where to post this sorry if its not under the correct heading.

When a collector receives replacement cards which I have had in the past, what do you make if it when you get a numbered rookie or autograph? What I mean is I was to get an autograped Lindros/25 years ago from SPA, I was told the card didnt exist and opted for replacement and received some really nice LA Kings cards in exchange. One I received was a Drew Doughty rookie numbered to 299.
What got me thinking was if I received this as a replacement for SPA and yet it was from a totally different line of UD how many of the 299 were origonally packaged.
Is that not misleading by UD when there are to be 299 cards produced but who knows maybe only 200 were inserted and they kept 99 back for things like this.
We are buying boxes hoping to get the big pull but in reality the odds are totally against us when the entire run is not inserted into packs!
Just a thought I had and wondered if anyone else ever thought about this?

No it's not misleading at all. They say how many are produced not released. UD will always open up a few cases of product for quality assurance purposes and hold back a very small percentage of the print run (considerably smaller than than the 33% you suggest in your post) for things such as redemption replacement and quality control replacements in the event someone pulls a damaged card.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

Sure but in the grand scheme of things. They aren't holding back for example (I'm going to use the Pens because that's my team): Tristan Jarry, Oskar Sundqvist, Dominik Simon, Tom Kuhnhackl FWAs, but more than likely are holding back some Jake Guentzels. Because they cant really give out the first list as replacements because no one wants them. So maybe the odds of pulling the better cards are more skewed than we might think.

And you're right 33% is way too high. (Just using FWAs) But holding 50-100 of 999 of some of the top guys for replacements? This is all speculation on my part.

Speaking as a guy that has received redemption replacements including the likes of Michael Ryder, they reserve a portion of everything because you truly never know what people will need QC replacements for and they're not going to always give out McDavid autos to people that are cashing out on their Cam Barker autos that didn't get produced.

By law they have to hold back some of the print run to do the NPN program. I don't know the law in Canada but by law in America you have to give people a chance to win the chase cards without them buying a pack and instead sending in a NPN to keep it legal. So right off the bat some cards have to be held back for that and I'm sure they hold some back for when somebody pulls a damaged card.
