    Back into Collecting with Questions

    Hey Everyone,

I enjoy the cite so far. I have collected from approximately 1985 to 1999/2000. I got married had kids and took a long break, approximately 2000-now. My daughter is grown up and I have three boys from 8-11 years old and I'm trying to get them into collecting (Baseball). So I have some questions, I assume Becket is still the value basis? Is there on-line value places or should I subscribe to Beckett? Is there a computer program that will let me inventory my cards with values? I know there is an impressive inventory program on this cite, but it does not have values. I plan on using the inventory for them here, is there a way to have three different inventories? (One for each of my sons? - I do not want to try to maintain three accounts)

If there is anything that you can tell me that has changed in the last 14-18 years in collecting I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks!

Horfin- Welcome to SCF! Many of us still use Beckett (or trade value) for card valuation purposes. Some use sale data (such as from Ebay) to price their cards.
    Always Looking for:

    A) Graded Vintage (Pre-1980) (BGS, BVG, PSA, SGC) in all sports
    B) Graded True RC's (No inserts or parallels) (BGS, PSA, SGC) in all sports
    C) Certified Auto and GU cards of players from the 70's and further back in all sports

The problem with Beckett and using their online guide inventory for prices is once you stop paying for the monthly account you lose the pricing. That's a lot of money for a lot of people to stomach (me included).

Peter- you are right, it is a lot. Unfortunately the site has gone downhill in my opinion since Dr. Beckett sold the company.

Beckett Values are meaningless imo ... eBay auction completed sales are the only thing that matters in my view.

Now, of course, as nearly ALL the cards I buy are true 1/1s, eBay sales generally don't exist, so in that case I try to find comparable player sales and use those as a guide ...

Welcome to SCF William, hope you enjoy the hobby with your 3 sons as it is a lot to take in these days! Beckett for RC's and inserts is great to use for trading purposes, but for pricing of auto's and anything else can be obtained off of eBay completed listings.
