    Lol Card Show

I went to my first card show today, Im in Regina, Saskatchewan.
The lol is for the prices some of these guys charge. Ill just give one example. A Nikita Alexeev rookie /399 that I sell for a dollar on ebay a guy was asking 15 dollars for. His whole display was a what the heck of prices. Every table seemed to be the same, except one. There was a table of a couple who was about 70 years old, they had lots of cards. For example they were selling a 9.5 Eichel BGS for 80 (Cdn) among other decent priced items. I got 6 items from them. Overall, oh boy, some delusional characters it seems.

Im just speaking for my experience, I have no idea if they are all like this.

That sounds like my experience at the Expo a few weeks ago. Spent two hours there, bought one card for $5. Since then, I have spent into four figures on eBay and these forums where people are in touch with reality.

It's the norm in Regina to see full book prices. There is actually a very large card community there and some people are willing to pay the price stated in "the book".

In Saskatoon it's a different story. The monthly show you can find real deals. However it's not as big a card community and not as big of a show...

So you can haggle on prices in Regina. Getting vendors to budge on their prices is a different story. I know a couple vendors there that are very reasonable even though they have full book for pricing.

Could take a look. However I am sticking mostly to the recent Upper Deck Releases for my Rider cards. I may broaden that horizon down the road, but for now to me it's like being on a strict diet.

Are you still at the show?

Yeah that does scare a few people away. However if you do go back I would direct you to go to Greg's table (he's g-force on here) or John Penn's table.

I recall that at the Grant Park shows in Winnipeg the dealers used to tell me that they loved doing the shows in Regina because they could get top dollar instead of giving their cards away.

    Jeff,
Never let one show scare you away as they are all different especially if it different people setting up. Enjoy the dealers you enjoy and let them supplement your online acquisition of cards. Too me there nothing like seeing the cards in person versus scans. Plus you pay and you get the card on site not waiting on the mail. Best of luck on your next show.

I had the same experience at the Expo this year.
Too many sellers who just have crazy list prices. I understand that some of them do so because they know there are some who will always try to haggle on the price, or even those who usually don't and they would sell for a large amount but personally I do not waste my time with those sellers.

I wanted to add a lower end Matthews auto card to my collection, and I walked around the show and found something I liked, for a price I liked. But some of these sellers.......one guy had a BGS 9 O Pee Chee Platinum Matthews auto for $800 US firm!!! I started to laugh and he gave me a very dirty look, but seriously, has he seen any previous sales?!

When I find a seller who has something I want for a price I like, I don't even hesitate and I pull the trigger.
