How do you guys decide what to get graded?

I've had a few cards graded in the past but I'm curious how others decide what to have graded. Is there a certain book-value that you decide a card is worth grading? Only certain players? Only if you feel confident it will get a 9.5+?

I have some cards I feel are in great condition yet perhaps their book value doesn't warrant getting graded. Just looking for other opinions on grading.

I only grade high end RCs or high value cards for my PC. I usually look at the card myself to make sure it at least has a shot at a 9.5. If not, I just keep it in the one touch.

What about a high value rookie auto that sells for $500+ but is possibly a 9 (maybe a 9.5 but no guarantee). Worth the risk of getting it graded for $10? And if it ends up a 9 just breaking it out?

I'm in Canada so cost is a little more so anything that I feel that may not be a 9.5 or is questionable, I save for Expo and try to grade there since I get a bit of a break on price there.

As a follow up question, does anyone know if Beckett will still honor requests to not grade/seal a card that won't get a 9.5+ after initial inspection, and just return the card to you (if say you're getting other cards graded at the same time so no added shipping costs to them)? I remember that used to be the case.

Yes. They still do this. You request a minimum grade of x of do not slab! They still charge you the regular price though as they still had to inspect the card.
