NHL Auctions - Auto cards
This is a bold move by Fanatics, take 2 non-auto cards and selling them certified. I think they are very much overpriced on these cards, thoughts on the product if it was fairly priced?

Not sure it's that bold of a move, I mean JSA and PSA already certify autos on non-auto cards and have a giant lead on Fanatics. I would have to agree with you however that these products are overpriced, it doesn't appear that anyone has entered a bid on either auction and there are only a couple of hours left.
Even more concerning is this auction ....
DUNCAN KEITH CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS AUTOGRAPHED 2008-09 UPPER DECK VICTORY #155 CARD WITH 2015 CONN SMYTHE INSCRIPTION
it can be yours for $150.00! If you want me to overpay for an auto, use something better than Upper Deck Victory lol.

And it's only $29 to ship it to Canada. Lol. What a steal. $179 for a $2 card. Good business plan.

Very overpriced. Auctions like this I think are made for buyers who may not know any better to be honest, and are in the market for Larkin stuff with big pockets.
I've seen this a lot with autographed 8x10's. Some are cheap and/or reasonably priced, while others are rockets to the moon. Just need that one buyer in order to cash in on something like this.Last edited by creasecollector; 03-29-2018 at 05:46 PM.

Fanatics is a ripoff. I imagine they make their money from unknowing buyers purchasing birthday and x-mas presents.

Thing is I bet Fanatics has to pay the NHL quite a nice premium to sell the cards on the nhl site. If you watch any of the NHL auctions they are usually pretty high in term of prices. Just saying!!

@doniceage nailed it. They’re officially licensed so there’s fees and all that to factor into the costs. They’re making a big push into the hockey market as they’ve got quite a few guys locked up for autograph deals. Right now they’re the only place you can get a Drouin autograph in a Habs uniform.
As was noted above they are a mass market resource. Not everybody out there knows you can get a regular Larkin auto for $20. But not everybody wants to do that type of research—they just want to get a gift for a bro or family member and see “hey a signed rookie card that’s cool.”
