But for a Canadian to come over the border, and pick you their mail at your facility ..... we then have to pay duties unless we lie.

So we save some money per package on shipping costs, but 100% have to pay duties. Duties along with storage fees or increased shipping costs with the small chance of duties seems like a wash

and if its it shipped to you from the US, US citizens are supposed to fill out customs forms properly MEANING you have to pay the duty PLUS the shipping (and we fill out our customs paperwork correctly )

Coming back to Canada from the States, if you are not there for 24 hours technically you arnt allowed to bring anything back duty free. Its also not a per person per day kind of thing. For example, when I go to my cabin in the US with my family for 2+ days ( wife and kid ) we are not allowed to bring back $2400 worth of anything. Value is not allowed to be transferred. So if I have $500 worth of woman's clothing, $300 in toys for children and $1500 in cardboard .... you will be asked to pay duties because I am not allowed to use the $300 my wife doesnt spend, and the $500 my kid doesnt spend.

I know as an American, if you are coming to Canada for 48 hours + you can bring $800 over the border duty free ..... same rule applies to Canadians staying in the US for 48+ hours before coming home.

I got 3 packages last week with proper customs and full value declared on the package, all between $300 and $650. I was not asked to pay duties on any of them. Most likely because there is so much stuff entering and exiting the country right now that they are just pushing things through. On the other hand, the last package I had to pay duties on ( about 2 months ago ) was only declared at $150.

I would say about 90% of the packages that come with properly filled out customs forms with correct values I do not have to pay any duties on.

On the other hand, when you are face to face at the border ...... and they start asking you about what value you are bringing home and what the contents are ..... its very simple for them to just say "go inside and bring all your receipts". If you are entering the country with more than you are allotted to bring at any time, I would much rather it come through the mail than to drive it over the border. Its so easy for a border guard to basically pass off the problem to someone inside to just collect duties that they are almost trigger happy to do so.
