    Penny Sleeve Conundrum

    Heyo SCF Peeps,

    Happy Easter/Passover everyone!

Since I am home quarantined, the cards are out and I have decided to take my stuff out of albums (leaving some cheap 90s sets for show), penny sleeving everything, and organizing them into 3000-4000 ct. boxes.

A problem that I have always had with this is that these penny sleeved cards slide around like crazy in these boxes. When I take a handful out, gravity takes over and the cards slide over each other, which causes me to spend unneeded time reorganizing them.

I am thinking there has got to be a way to maybe manipulate the bottoms of these boxes to prevent this slippage, or maybe some other ideas.

I turn it over to you guys, does anybody have a similar problem that they have been able to work around?

Any response/ideas are greatly appreciated as always.....

    -Greg

Just use a plastic ‘brick’ container as a placeholder. Works for unsleeved cards as well.

I would do something like this:

I cut little pieces of form which you can make as thin as you want for more cards.

    Card Supplies
    Toploaders 60 point $4, 100 point $7, 140 point $4, 190 point $3, 240 point $3
Soft Sleeves Standard $1 and Thick $1.50
    TOP-LOADER 3X4,100 CT PENNY SLEEVES INCLUDED $11

@gfel2795 this was a great idea for a thread. I'm in the same boat and have a few thousand base/insert cards lying around. Great tips guys!

You know those cardboard decoys you get in packs? Stick half a dozen of them at the front of your row.... and packs the cards tight enough that they don't move.

When you want to go into that row, you just take the decoys out... and you can flip through things easily. Maybe you'll need more than 6 if you're using the thinner ones.

Added bonus: It's easy to tape something onto the decoys, and create labels for what's in each row. Maybe you stick 6 of them in the front... it's got a "2015-16" label, and half way through the row there are six more, and a "2016-17" label.

Yea, I have the same problem with my 5,000 count boxes...I have all kinds of methods to keep them tight - really depends on how much room you have... I've used my penny sleeve packs (I buy in bulk) to fill the gaps, sometimes I will just use a bunch of commons or semi-stars not worthy of sleeves to fill the gaps, heck I even use shipping popcorn, bubble wrap, newspaper and even 250 count boxes, snap cases for my "bricks" or just a bunch of stars in top loaders and even old-school screw down holders..... But you said 4,000 count boxes, and I'm not sure 4,000 count boxes can hold top loaders, 250 count boxes, snap cases or screw downs.....

If that's the case your best bet is foam or crumbled up newspaper ..... But if you buy penny sleeves by the case - just use the packs to fill the gap...... Oh and save the penny sleeve packages too - they make excellent team set bags and one-touch protectors so your one-touch doesn't get all scratched up and aged and makes your card look like crap.

Thin rubber matting. Purchased it from Canadian Tire. Usually used in mechanics tool drawers. Comes in rolls, fairly inexpensive.

Thanks Don, I forgot to mention that it works on any surface also.
