Upper Deck License
Does anyone know when the exclusive license for Upper Deck runs through. Leaf has come out with product in recent years, but obviously some look off because of the no logos, no players cards. I even saw a Potvin card of his mask that was scrubbed clean of any Maple Leaf, which makes it look weird. But I miss the day of competition within the hockey marketplace. As I look back through a lot of cards, I realized I like Panini more than I thought.

I Googled it and found this article https://www.sportscollectorsdaily.co...er-conference/
In short it doesn't give a date. I'm with you, competition is good. Upper Deck has stagnated for a long time now. They need to shake things up there. Probably never happen though. Got any awesome Portraits for trade?

A few more years, I believe. I think Topps will make a big push for the licence (or at least a shared licence) when UD's contract is up.

The exclusive deal between Upper Deck, the NHL, and the NHLPA was renewed in January 2019. While the specifics aren't mentioned in this article from UD:
http://www.upperdeck.com/corporate/n...019-01-10.aspx
I believe it was a five-year term as that tends to be the hobby standard for the licensing deals. So I believe that will take us through the 2024-25 season.
Who knows what things will look like at that time, whether we will see a shared license with Topps and/or Panini included, or an extensive of the current exclusive. It's so hard to look beyond the next couple of weeks in this current environment due to COVID-19. I hope that UD continues to experiment with new products; Chronology is a great use of their license with the NHL Alumni, and I think that Allure can bring something to the table. As much as people complain about the "same old" there's a real reluctance it seems to get behind the new products, which means they get abandoned after 1-2 years and SPx continues to exist.

Leaf has already stated they have no intentions of having a full license in ANY sport. They claim it is just too costly.

Not much the ''same old''... for me it's the value in boxes that keeps going down. Less packs, less autos in boxes, it's getting ridiculous! I was tempted in buying a case of the new OPC platinum, checked the checklist and changed my mind fast! We need something different! I agree with you, Chronology was a nice addition but I think they’re doing too much stuff... half of it is garbage in my opinion!
