    Question about authenticity of patch

    Hi folks,

Wondering if anyone can help with that patch:

    received_2352217811737336.jpeg

To me the patch doesn't make sense since the jersey it seems to be from was used exclusively between 96-06 and Gerbe played for the first time in 09.

I could be wrong about the jersey though.

    Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Just on first glance, the material "looks wrong" to me - like it's from a hat. If you can, look through eBay completed sales, see if you can find that serial number in the history anywhere, as well as compare with other Gerbe patches. It's either a really nice and unique patch, or it's tampered.

Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

How does it compare to other patches seen in this card? UD uses all sorts of custom stupid jerseys for their photoshoots

Yeah I thought it could be that. The only one on Ebay has the same colors... But still it might have been tampered too lol.

Upper Deck should really keep a database of their patches at least on high end products.

Actually Upper Deck could be a big help by providing photos of their higher end product patch cards, including serial numbers. The Cup has a reputation for faked ARP's, particularly back then.
It's curious why anyone would both faking a Gerbe patch, they don't sell for very much. Is there a value assigned to the card in question? Meaning is someone trying to trade or sell it to you at a premium?
I trade by BV so please don't reference EBAY.

Oh and I know some lower end Cup cards that have been tampered. They were probably used for practice.

If it's a really nice patch, there are set builders that will go nuts, trying to get the "best" patches for their set.

Look at these two auctions (I use this example, since I bid on both cards, and I knew the price difference):

    https://www.ebay.ca/itm/2015-16-The-...kAAOSwMhZeW87y

    https://www.ebay.ca/itm/2015-16-UD-T...gAAOSwnZVeVeTm

Same card, one sold for $19 CND, the other for $66 USD ($90+ CND)

Depending on how much work the patch faking is.... that's an easy profit, if you can do it.

I looked at worthpoint. There's lots that have sold with those colours.... so I'm guessing it's just a case of UD's awesome photoshoot jerseys not actually looking anything like the real ones.

    I also found this:

Doesn't mean the card was not tampered with, but it was sold on eBay on August 6th, 2009. That's awfully close to release day - so I'm guessing the card is fine.

Looks like a very hard card to re-patch with that thin foil surrounding the patch. Anything is possible I guess.
