Oh Man, Making a List of Your Cards Can Drain Your Soul, lol

Wow, so I have a collector asking me for cards - and I always get the SAME question: "do you have a list?" - at first I was just going to list my YG's (because that's what the user was looking for) and a few other cards but I got really into it and started just listing anything viable, worth something or in demand post 2000, SP's, Iinserts, S/N cards, auto's etc and I spent a good 2 hours working on this - feeling good, making progress and I was getting somewhere with this list and a FUSE pops at my house, I lost power, hence all progress - everything - gone.... I popped a new fuse and said to myself - forget it - I will start again, so I did, and I worked on this list for 12 hours (including before the fuse blew) - but after listing so many cards - I am so drained. And I'm only maybe 7% into my traders post 2000...I mean I still have a ton of stuff to put on the list, that I just cant find that I was looking for (golden side note on that one) like my 19-20 MVP, I totally forgot where I put them, because I know I have plenty of SP's/High Numbers and Puzzle Backs... I mean as far as base I'm only listing the "key cards" to the set for now - you know McDavid, Matthews, Crosby, AO, Kane - the top dogs from the base set - but that is an aside - I'm focusing more on the high-end cards and the Rookie SP's, Parallels and inserts if they're viable...

Man I wish I had the money to hire someone to do this job - because it's not fun, even if it was a possibility for me they would still have to take a test and know their cards, lol.....

And to make it worse my MS Word isn't even working so I used the "note pad".. I had everything spaced out nicely and sorted and it comes out like this - I swear the hockey card Gods really don't like me, lol..

Yea. that is about 8-10 hours worth of work and it looks like that, lol.. It was all aligned and eveything in word pad but it comes out like this?.... I mean it can be fixed obviously and needs editing anyways so... Yea, I'm burnt.

I should have taken the course in computer programming in college (this was the 90's) instead or the Graphic Design course I opted for AKA Photoshop, lol...

    It's flipping ridiculous.

Oh, I forgot to tell all of you about the "golden side note" -- I was looking for my 19-20 MVP and came across an 800 count box LOADED with baseball stars and rookies.... I was like "I don't remember this box" Chipper Jones rookies, Derek Jeter rookies all kinds of stuff going back into the 80's.... So I set that off to the side because I still have an interest in pre-2000 or so baseball.. A whole stack of 85 Donruss stars, I was dumbfounded... I don't recall ever going through this box before, lol.... I think it came will a large collection I purchased a couple of years ago, and that was one of the boxes I just didn't have time to get to, lol...

Making a list isn't too bad when using the SCF Inventory here. You can also export it into a text format to copy/paste on a website as well. I would try that next time. You can also create a want list too!

I have the same issue with time to spend listing all the stuff I have. Once you do it though it will be set and as long as you update it as soon as. you move the cards you will be like why did I never do this before. Just have to find the initial time to do it.

One reason why so many collectors like COMC as they list all the cards for you.

I also use notepad to prepare my threads and I have that same issue. The only way I have found to preserve the line feeds from Notepad is to copy and paste from Notepad to an new email message first (I use Gmail) and then copy again from that email message and paste into my thread. I hope that helps and works for you.

Download OpenOffice (freeware). Open the Writer software (Word clone). Paste from Notepad into Writer. Will now all be spaced/formatted correctly.

Using notepad would definitely be a tough slog. Have you considered some of the free Office alternatives? There are several.

Thanks for all the help guys/gals - fellow collectors, lol.....

I normally don't use note pad, the only reason why I was using it is because I want to save my list so I can add cards when I have the time or as needed....

As for the inventory manager here at SCF - it takes a lot of time to add cards, I mean I spent nearly a week checking off my inventory and only managed 5,000 cards, lol it felt like I was getting nowhere...

But yea, thanks - I will absolutely try some of your methods and I'm sure I will find one that will resolve the issue.

    Thanks again,

    - Nick
