How should I reorganize my traders?
Hey everyone,
It's been a while since I've been super active on here but I wanted to update my traders but wasn't sure of the best way to go about it.
- Should I be taking pictures of everything and throwing them onto a website?
- Make one giant list where someone can use (CTL+F / CMD++F) to find the players they want?
- Put the cards into an inventory manager (SCF/Beckett)?
Any and all input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jer

I think the idea of inventory manager on here is good, as you could export it into a copy/paste file to spread on other places like facebook. I think there are ways to improve it, but in general I'm a fan (just been too lazy to put it all on there so far :))

Thank you! I do find it to be very clunky and old school, as if it's 15 years behind. I like the concept but it just seems like it could be so much more efficient.

I just did this and used a google sheet. I didn't have to worry about being precise with the inserting of cards in numerical order by set because I could just let the doc do the sorting for me.

Any chance I can see what yours looks like so I can get a better idea?
Thanks

Sure, what I did was I started by putting cards in individually and here is what it looked like.

Then I decided a better plan of action was to organize my cards by manufacturer, year, and set. I then started a new tab for each year/set combo, put all of the cards in (in whatever order they were at the moment) and then sorted by card number.
I kept a tab titled "Reformatted" in which I then placed all of the now sorted year/set in chronological order.

I did about 650 cards and it took me about 9 hours. I spread that time out over three days.
The good news is that I could then copy paste and create a trading thread. The formatting isn't great on the google sheets copy paste into a thread, but getting the thread started was better than not doing so.Last edited by costanza; 07-29-2020 at 12:14 PM.

I have a Master List here (and try to sort my cards in boxes to find them like this!) and it works when trying to sell. I made some huge movements of 50-200 cards I think 4 times since COVID-19 and I had extra time on my hand.
I went with the most prominent set, starting with Upper Deck. Everything is listed in descending chronological order (2020-21 down to 1910-11 if I had any lol). Everything is listed in alphabetical order.
(18-19 Upper Deck Portraits ...
18-19 Upper Deck Shining Stars ...
18-19 Young Guns...)
After Upper Deck it is the same but listed in alphabetical order by Company and then descending chronological order and alphabetically by set, subset, then order of appearance in each set).
So I would have Bowman, Donruss, Classic, Fleer, In the Game, O Pee Chee, Parkhurst, Pacific, Panini. *Note* Sets like Fleer or OPC Platinum produced by Upper Deck would follow under Upper Deck.
I have good success listing in this manner. I would love to make a spreadsheet and let it do some of the work for me. I am a novice in this aspect but I think the way I list and help of a good spread sheet it would be very beneficial.

Oh wow that's neat.
I've been working on my spreadsheet for a day now and I'm trying to figure out the most optimal way to sort them and write out the descriptions.

I should add my Master List to my signature sometime soon but I have been back to work full time for 2 months now and moving this week. I won't even have internet access for a bit. I also have 500 more cards to add to the list, most of them being autos, jerseys, inserts and rookies. I will do that and then look into a spread sheet. I would love to be able to copy & paste my current 2300 cards into a program and tinker with that. Maybe I will get to it this winter since there won't be many Red Wings games to watch seeing as they suck and got hosed in the draft lol.
I will save this thread for ideas on spreadsheets. Maybe I can get my computer-wizard-best-friend to help me to create a spreadsheet or find a program to help me. I will share if I get to it lol
Cheers all,
-
