Draft Day News & Discussion Thread
With the NHL Entry Draft beginning tonight (make sure to enter the contest and #CollectAlexis) there's certainly going to be a lot of news happening around the NHL today.
If you see something breaking, this is the place to post it.
The Habs have started off their day by announcing they will be buying out the final two years of Karl Alzner's contract.
Habs fan and collector! Current PC's: Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Lane Hutson...., and of course...

@RGM81 thoughts on the Domi for Anderson trade?

Honestly, it stinks. I know Anderson had a great 18-19 season, and he's the prototypical power forward on the right side that the Habs need.
But I really like Max Domi, and I think he got a raw deal in the playoffs.
I imagine that this move takes the Habs out of any potential Laine sweepstakes.

I had read a while back that a package like Domi, their 1st, and Fluery were going to be swapped for Laine. I don't believe that Laine will actually get much more than that in trade (he will be the best player in the deal, and fans are going to perceive any trade as a bad one). I also thought that would be a good deal for the Habs.
Seems the issue with Domi is that he doesn't want to play Wing, but he's been usurped on the depth chart.
Not sure that Anderson is "the guy" - but a good pickup, I think.
Domi's stats weren't great this year... which is much more in line with his numbers in Arizona. He had a great 18-19 with the Habs though.
Is Domi a player who will flirt with the PPG rate going forward? Or a guy that's going to get between 40-50 ? I'm guessing the later... and if you've added a big body that will score 20+ - I think that's a good swap.

lol.
You know though, I'll thank both TSN & Sportsnet for NOT creating some false narrative this time.

Yeah, and my impression is that there was actually some debate as to who would go where.... even though I think pretty much everyone had Byfield ranked 2. That sounded more reasonable than "after playing college, is Jack Eichel more NHL ready than Connor McDavid?" and what ever other silly angles they try in use in years that the #1 pick is a slam dunk (which is most of them. I think the last three that were not consensus #1 were Hughes, Hischier, and Erik Johnson).

In the U.S., before the draft started they were talking about how NYR were mentioning to Alexis about his skating not being as good as it "should be". Also, "they didn't commit to him, which is why he's looking a little nervous". So they were trying to pump some drama.

So how does everyone feel about how their team did at the draft?
Myself, I'm disappointed. The Oilers had the 14th overall pick. I won't bash their selection - but a kid who scored 8 goals in the NCAA last year, has got to be a minimum of 3 years away from helping this team. I would have rather seen them trade the pick for immediate help and/or cap relief.
