    91 topps desert shield

    Need some advice please.
Asking for a family member. I've collected cards for years so I know some things. A member has around 1500 mint 91 Topps desert shield cards he acquired while serving overseas. He is 4 cards short of a complete set and the other 700 + cards are mostly commons .All were taken out of the packs and put in plastics and put away since. what is the best way to sell these. For maximum money of course. Thanks.1643843200467.jpg1643843213482.jpg1643843229355.jpg1643804931552.jpg1643806360834.jpg

What are the 4 cards he is missing to complete the set? Depending on what he is missing you might want to acquire the missing 4 and sell it as a complete set.

He missing 2 commons, a will Clark ( no biggie ) and Griffey, which could be a biggie in mint 10.

Probably wouldn't be worth it to complete the set unless you can snag the Griffey cheap and I don't think you can. The Will Clark probably costs a good amount too. Your two options would be to complete the set and then to sell it like that. Or get the Chipper Jones rookie graded and the other key cards (whatever players sell the highest) and then sell those graded cards and just sell the rest of the set minus the others and add in the 700+ commons. But that will cost more money upfront and be way more time consuming. So it comes down to what you need to get out of it in cash value and when do you need the cash and how much work/time can you put into it. Unfortunately there isn't one correct answer as nobody knows your situation or what the cards would grade etc.

I'm not a big fan of grading but there are a LOT of counterfeits out there- getting the key cards graded could definitely loosen up the purse strings for buyers.

Another option is to sell the set (missing 4 cards or not) to an ebay dealer that does set breaks like Greg Morris. Don't know what they pay but they certainly have the buyers to make that work for them...and you. Most dealers aren't going to have a market for that so they'll want to steal it from you for pennies.

    James,
Let use this pic as a example of what you should do:

If you can look up the final sale price on the two ungraded bo Jackson on sortsof or some other site where you can find the actual offer. Once you compare that you can gauge what you need to do. You can now submit cards for $50 and it will get cheaper with PSA or BGS as they lowered their price. Submission have come down so have their prices until they get backlogged again then they might raise them. Imo wait a little bit and they will come down.
Step 1 (Pick the ones to grade by doing a pre grade).
So more than likely the best best imo would be fine someone you or another to throughly go over the cards for grading. Submit the top 5 star cards you have. Theoretically that would cost you $250 but as you seen the Bo above sold for $299 graded and if you got a better graded real money to be made. Of course you will have to decide who to grade with as well so more research to see what dollars come out.

    Step 2 (where to sell)
You could go to a auction house or any of the bigger consignor on ebay versus selling yourself as they have quite a following and you will see how they get better prices than if you or I sold do their following. Of course if you want suggestions of who to use it will vary.
Again many factors fall in this if you want to keep the cards in hand or ship them out. I mean there all type of options and if you have questions just ask but everyone has a opinion and no answer is right for everyone.

Step 3 (Once you did the sample of 5 move onto the next batch)
You could break it down to semi stars and again do research to see if it worth grading or not. I mean you might even be surprised what some of the commons sell for when graded. Again it all research. Just remember this if you piece things out one at a time the amount of time you take will be a long time and not just a quick transaction. You want max dollars you need to piece it out individually and not as one whole sale as more than likely whoever buys it from you will be flipping it. Just saying as it hard to find a collector that will be like I want to pay max dollars for a desert shield set as most set collectors who are chasing it are already committed and have a checklist they are chasing.

Have other questions feel free to ask.
