He really should retire, i don't think he'll play again. If he did how good could he be?

He won't officially retire until his contract is up. I wouldn't leave that kind of money on the table. No, his contract doesn't count against the cap. I think he has a faint hope he can play again, but I seriously doubt it.

He's 35 years old. There are exactly 7 goalies & 31 skaters that have played this season, that are older than he is. If he comes back, it's not going to be an easy task.

That being said, he's an elite athlete. This is a guy who has been the best of the best, and not that long ago. If he thinks he can get healthy enough to play, I'd bet he can do it.

Retire? Why would he. It costs him money, and hurts the Habs. The system is silly, but it is what it is. He'll be on LTIR if he can't play anymore..... he gets paid, and the Habs don't have to worry about the cap hit.

It would be the ultimate exhibition of irony if Carey's final NHL game was that 10-2 victory. For years and years, he was the absolute backbone and the team was so dependent upon him to hold the opposition to two or fewer goals to have a hope of winning. "Offensively challenged" was an understatement during some of those seasons when he was Peak Price. I have always looked at the period from the abbreviated 2013 season to 2016-17 as his prime years--and in three of the four years that they made the playoffs (2013, 2015, and 2017--2014 the exception but of course he got Kreider'd) the Habs suffered a premature conclusion to their season because they couldn't buy a goal. Two first round exits and once in the second in the "year that should have been" in 2015. Same thing in the 2020 bubble playoffs, where his SV% was .936 and his GAA under 2.00.
He was able to play that last game as loosely as you can imagine for an NHL goalie, and I'm so glad he got to savour that outpouring of adulation from the Bell Centre faithful.

I think the odds are long that he'll be able to return. The surgery that would be necessary to prolong his career is only a proven 50% success rate. He very quickly went from talking about being "on the back nine" of his career to being "on the 18th hole." You always want to see your guy get to go out on his own terms, with their head held high and the ultimate success achieved. I don't think he's going to get that opportunity, but if there was ever anyone who deserves it, it's Carey Price.
