What's going on with the forum?! Looks like it's in "slow-mo". Yet, hockey season has started...
Like I wrote in my title, is it just me or the forum seems to be in slow-mo lately, for the last few days/weeks? I mean, besides the Tims cards (that are not necessarily what I'd call high-ends for the most part of them, nor that much valuable cards (to me anyway)), yep besides that not much seems to be going on recently... I'm trying to post some cards for trade, and/or for sale, but I've got to say it's rather very "quiet"...
So is it that, now if we don't have Tim Horton's cards nor Bedard stuff, we cannot sell or trade anymore ?! After all, "it takes two to tango"... Also, I really thought that Patrick Roy was a highly-collected player; well, still looking for some of his fans on here, as I've posted a few threads lately on SCF offering some of his stuff. Again, at the risk of repeating myself, got to say it's really quiet! Will the Tim's keep being trendy for a long time?!

I can't speak for the rest of the members but I know for myself the last two years I have had to change the way I collect. With the prices of cards going through the roof, inflation, cost of living etc. I only buy PC items now, and I am very selective even with that. I believe that many of the 'investors' that were buying a lot of the available cards have now switched to buying the 'easy to move' cards ie. Tim's, Series 1, SP, whatever the flavor of the month might be so they can turn it over quickly everything else will be much harder to move.
As per your question about how long Tim's will be the hot cards,,, not long the set collectors will have the sets finished shortly and will be moved on.

I hear ya!! I find this site has changed. I remember a few years back members used to actually offer fair valued cards for your nice traders, now you should feel fortunate if someone offers you 5-$20 cards for your $100 card. Now I just deal with the few fair traders left on here & totally ignore the rest of them. It used to make me mad but now I just laugh and carry on.
There are other sites on Facebook but they are pretty much the same thing. Unfortunately this is what the sports card market is now & the greediness will get worse before it gets better. Wait til next year when Bedard comes out, it will be a gong show to say the least

Don't know what it is like in Canada but in the United States the card market is way down and so is the economy. They try to pump up the economy on the news but it isn't great and it isn't what they are trying to pass off as a hot economy. Things stink economically for a ton of people in America and when people are hurting they don't have disposable income. When you don't have disposable income you can't spend $5 shipping on a hockey card. Sure rich people aren't feeling the pinch but there aren't a ton of rich people and even if they were all interested in cards there wouldn't be enough of them to gobble up and prop up the current card market. People seem to forget that (I don't know if this is the case for hockey) but basketball and baseball have print runs that are now DOUBLE what it was like in 2018. That is insane and would cause a slow down even if the economy was booming. Too many cards available at places like Wal Mart and Target and you don't need to trade or buy from anybody on the internet. I mean when was the last time you saw the shelves this full of discounted product?

You have a perfect storm right now with several issues at play. First there is the annual Tim Hortons craze but that should wind down by the end of the month. Then there is the ridiculous prices being charged for new releases, so no one is breaking boxes anymore. Not good timing giving that North American is in a recession. Finally, many on this site and others are saving their money for this weekends Toronto Expo. Hopefully we see some fresh trading material from those attendees in the coming weeks. Standing by for more trades.

I made the some complaint 4 months ago. I was told that it's summer and it's slow in the summer. Apparently it's slow in the fall too, lol.

Well it is a fact that hockey activity drops in the summer and is slower. Right now it is extremely slow for baseball as the World Series ended. That too is another fact.
I can't answer where everybody is but Twitter's activity is down something like 16% right now and places like that are suppose to be the big social media leaders. Unless something drastic happens in the next few months ALL internet traffic for ALL websites will have a decline in 2023 after declining for the past couple of years. Why that is happening I can't answer but sometimes an issue (traffic down in the hockey section) can be because something bigger is happening overall (internet traffic down everywhere).

Our government has been in a fight with META and others lately so things could get even worse. In fact this cartoon show correctly predicted that Canada would do this.Last edited by piper1; 11-08-2023 at 03:43 PM.

@sleepn0t
Check this post out I put up:

Your not alone I offered a case up of a nice product for sale imo as it has some decent rookies to be had and the cost is MIND BLOWING when you consider cannot even get a mega box for the price point plus you get tons of hits (for a fun break). I even offered one member the boxes at $40 which is a great price even though I have a wholesaler willing to pay $50 a box. I even showed confirmed sales at $59.95. They inquired about the case and I told them how about 40 a box and I pay the shipping cost and they offered $25 a box. I mean would anyone on here sell a box with a decent rookie class and 3 game used per box for 25 when you can barely get a blaster box for that with no hit.

@parco10 I do not think the prices of cards are that bad it all about what you collect. If your chasing t
Needless to say I just sold the case to a wholesaler as no one wanted it lower than cost. The new shiny stuff is great but with the prices so overinflated is one reason why I like older products. As you can still get a decent deal or buy singles of what you need or like when grabbing a box versus the new boxes out there now. The prices are not that bad if you truly are patient and just bide your time. Of course that might be why the boards and online trading is slow as folks are not just shelling out crazy dollars for the newest products.
@jameslacarte I know many traders that will trade down and take 5 $20 cards for a $100 cards if it something that will fit their pc, or it something they think they can move as some are into selling, etc. So, it not always one sided. I think though it more like you offer a nice auto or game used and they offer inserts and base in return LOL. I have no problem with that if those so called traders will do it with me when the deal is reversed. I can count those folks on one hand who would so it better to deal with the folks you built a relationship with.
@cjb What do you consider slow as I have been averaging over 4 trades a month for the last year. Just think how much action if every trader on here did 4 trades a month. I think the biggest thing hurting trading especially low end deals is the whole cost of shipping. As I just posted on the SCF Facebook page shipping rates are going up yet again.
@pwaldo I think the economy is good for those who want to work. I mean the unemployment rate is good but the biggest problem is the inflation which has eroded the normal person paycheck. It is hard to justify spending some serious money on cards when you have bills that need to be paid. Of course I still see folks paying crazy amount of dollars when I watch auctions as I miss out on auctions all the time LOL.
@piper1 Everyone wants more money in the U.S. Look no further than the strikes by Unions who have gotten some pretty crazy raises this year. Good for them but in the end it only going to hurt everyone else when the prices go up as the mass majority are not getting raises like that.
If you have any suggestions on how to make the place better lmk.
